Desperados flips cringe culture with new campaign

Desperados has unveiled Cara de Meme (Meme Face), its first cultural act under the The Beer with Latin Vibe platform. Developed by LePub Milan, the initiative addresses a defining Gen Z tension: the desire to let loose while fearing digital judgment.

Research indicates that 66 percent of Gen Z want to break free from everyday expectations when going out, yet 41 percent hold back to avoid appearing “cringe.” Only 32 percent feel comfortable doing something others might see as over the top, highlighting the challenge of balancing self-expression with social scrutiny.

Ligia Patrocinio, Global Head of Desperados: "‘Cara de Meme’ is the next chapter in a series of cultural acts designed to overcome the ‘vibe killers’ that hold Gen Z back, starting with the fear of digital judgment. This project flips the script: being turned into a meme isn’t 'cringe,' it’s proof you were brave enough to truly let go."

Celebrating movement, music, and unfiltered expression

The campaign centres on an iPhone-shot music video capturing the raw, lo-fi aesthetic of Gen Z social platforms. It features Kieran Lai (@kieranlai.official), Red Bull Dance Your Style Challenge champion, performing his signature ‘worm move’ at weddings and other locations, set to a new track by rising Mexican artist RIVVAA (@rivvaaaaaaaa).

Desperados extends the challenge across social channels, collaborating with creators including Olly Bowman (@ollybowman) and Diversity dance group members Nathan Ramsay (@nathanramsayy) and Georgia Lewis (@georgiaalewiss) to inspire audiences in the UK and Spain to replicate the iconic move.

Mihnea Gheorghiu, Global Chief Creative Officer of LePub: "Ultimately, it comes down to a choice between standing on the sidelines calling it cringe or letting go and potentially becoming a worldwide sensation just because you vibe."

Building youth culture relevance

The project continues the brand’s emphasis on culturally resonant, music-driven moments, following the award-winning Guao Guao campaign. By partnering with artists who embody confidence and playfulness, Desperados reinforces its position at the centre of global youth culture, delivering content that is authentic, entertaining, and rooted in self-expression.
