Florida promotes historic sites for America 250

VISIT FLORIDA has launched a tourism campaign tied to America 250 celebrations, highlighting the state’s role in U.S. history through a documentary series, events and heritage-focused travel initiatives.

Central to the campaign is America 250: A Portrait of Florida, a seven-episode docuseries exploring historic locations, cultural milestones and figures connected to both Florida and the wider American story.

Docuseries highlights historic destinations

The series features locations including St. Augustine, Pensacola, Tallahassee, Cape Canaveral, Key West, the Everglades, Miami and Tampa.

Four episodes are currently available through the America250FL platform, with additional episodes scheduled for release through June.

Bryan Griffin, President and CEO, VISIT FLORIDA: “Florida is all-in on celebrating America 250, and we invite everyone to visit our state and experience history. Florida has a long story of exploration, innovation and courage. We designed the ‘America 250: A Portrait of Florida’ docuseries to tell that story—and to encourage people from all over to visit Florida's historic sites, museums and landmarks.”

VISIT FLORIDA said it is also working with state agencies, counties and cities to promote heritage tourism linked to America 250 commemorations.

Cities and regions host commemorative events

St. Augustine, founded in 1565, is promoting its America 250 Celebration alongside historic attractions including Aviles Street.

Pensacola is highlighting its history through the America’s First Settlement Trail and exhibits at the Pensacola Museum of History featuring artefacts from 16th-century shipwrecks.

In Tallahassee, the Florida Historic Capitol Museum is hosting The George Washington Experience, an interactive exhibition centred on the Lansdowne portrait of George Washington.

Tourism initiatives span golf and road trips

Florida’s Space Coast will host an America’s 250 Celebration & Drone Show on 3 July near the Kennedy Space Center, combining drone displays with storytelling around U.S. independence and space exploration.

Elsewhere, Destin-Fort Walton Beach plans to transform the S.S. United States into an artificial reef and maritime attraction later this summer.

The statewide campaign also includes the America250FL Golf Trail, featuring historic golf courses including the Biltmore and Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, and the America250FL Road Trip, designed to guide travellers through historical landmarks across the state.

A separate Founding Father statue programme will introduce monuments across Florida counties named after historical U.S. figures including George Washington and Benjamin Franklin.
