Eric Kramer steps down from WPP Netherlands
Eric Kramer is stepping down as WPP Country Manager Netherlands after 18 years with the company, citing the group’s evolving strategic direction and his desire to pursue a different path within the industry.
In a personal statement reflecting on his departure, Eric Kramer said the decision followed a period of reflection after WPP outlined its next strategic phase earlier this year.
Leadership transition follows strategic shift
Eric Kramer said he questioned whether he was the right person to lead the company’s next stage in the Netherlands as WPP’s updated strategy began taking shape across the organisation.
Eric Kramer, Country Manager, WPPNetherlands: “WPP is entering a new strategic chapter, one that was announced earlier this year and is now taking shape across the group. A moment like that asks something of you as a leader. It asks you to look in the mirror and be honest. Am I the right person to lead this next phase in the Netherlands?”
According to Eric Kramer, both he and WPP concluded that the timing was right for a leadership transition.
The executive described the move as both difficult and energising after nearly two decades helping build WPP’s presence and operations in the Dutch market.
Kramer reflects on industry career
In the statement, Eric Kramer also reflected on his long-standing commitment to marketing and creative strategy, describing the industry as a collaborative environment shaped by teamwork and shared ambition.
Eric Kramer: “I have always believed marketing should be a force for good. That is the belief I want to lean further into now, whether that is closer to the public cause or for brands I love.”
He added that his next chapter would continue to focus on strategy, creativity and purpose-driven work.
Industry relationships remain central
Eric Kramer also highlighted the importance of collaboration throughout his career, pointing to relationships with colleagues, clients, partners and competitors as one of the defining aspects of his time in the industry.
Eric Kramer: “The best work I have ever been part of was never made alone. It was made in rooms full of sharp, stubborn, generous people who wanted to get to something great together.”
WPP has not yet announced a successor for the Netherlands leadership role.
