Toyota pits McGrath against a cricket-savvy bird
Toyota has released Pidge vs. Pigeon, a short film starring celebrated Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath in a light-hearted clash with an unexpected challenger: a British pigeon. The film arrives ahead of the Ashes Cricket series, which begins on 21 November in Perth.
In the run-up to the contest, McGrath, a six-time Ashes winner, repeated his confident forecast of a five–zero victory for Australia. That prediction is challenged in the film by the pigeon, introduced as an outfield specialist, making its own forecast from Worcestershire County Cricket Ground, a venue linked to McGrath’s time playing in England.
Pigeon prediction delivers surprise result
The setup places the pigeon on a pitch divided into sections representing England and Australia. As it lands to select the winner of each Test, the bird delivers a verdict that overturns McGrath’s confidence, predicting England to claim the series with a three–two win.
The playful exchange highlights the rivalry that defines the Ashes, while also showcasing Toyota’s ongoing commitment to cricket. The brand is principal partner of the England and Wales Cricket Board and partner of Cricket Australia, with McGrath serving as a long-standing brand ambassador.
