Spotify celebrates Thai music fans in BBDO campaign

The campaign positions Spotify as a space where Thai music fans express their identities and connect through music, rather than simply as a streaming service.

Spotify has launched Only Spotify People Know, an integrated campaign in Thailand developed by BBDO Bangkok and Juice Singapore that explores the shared references, rituals and behaviours connecting music fans on the platform.

The campaign aims to grow Spotify's active user base in Thailand, increase awareness of its features and strengthen the brand's relationship with local audiences.

Spotify uses music features to build fan connections

The campaign is built around the idea that Thai Gen Z audiences communicate through shared references, memes, inside jokes and behaviours that may not be understood by people outside their social circles. Spotify applies the same cultural insight to music fans, presenting its platform features as a shared language.

The campaign's first film, launched in August, focused on Spotify Blend, which combines two people's music into a shared playlist and shows how closely their tastes align. Spotify paired T-pop artist Putthipong Assaratanakul, known as BILLKIN, with hip-hop artist YOUNGOHM, using their contrasting profiles to demonstrate the connection revealed through Blend.

The latest film focuses on Spotify Jam, which allows friends to listen together in real time and add songs to a shared queue. It features Artiwara Konmalai, known as Toon, from Bodyslam, and guncharlie. A group of school students take turns selecting songs, creating a shared emotional journey before their teacher makes a selection of his own.

BBDO Bangkok and Juice Singapore lead campaign

Both films were directed by Thai commercial director Wuttisak Un Anarnkaporn and produced by Factory 01.

Gustavo Figueiredo, Group Creative Director, Juice Singapore: "The campaign shows that Spotify is much more than a place to listen to music, where music lovers connect, express their identity, and belong. By highlighting how real fans use Spotify features to bond and share who they are, we wanted to build a unique culture based on musical taste that naturally sparks curiosity in outsiders, showing what it feels like to be part of an inner circle that only Spotify people truly know."

Pathida Akkarajindanon, CCO, BBDO Bangkok: "We started with a simple question: what does it actually feel like to be on the inside? For Thai Gen Z, so much of how they connect is through shared references, inside jokes and things only their circle understands. We turned that into ‘Only Spotify People Know’, reimagining familiar Spotify features as a kind of secret language that fans will instantly get. And for those who don’t, will hopefully leave them with just a little bit of FOMO."

Spotify campaign expands across Thailand

Only Spotify People Know runs across film, out-of-home, digital and social channels. The films are available in multiple lengths, from 74- and 89-second versions to six-second formats, and are being used across TVC, programmatic CTV, social, digital and performance marketing.

The out-of-home campaign uses interactive billboards to depict people wearing headphones and appearing to be in separate worlds before revealing that they are listening to the same track through a Spotify Jam. The executions are running across Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Chonburi, including Parc Paragon and 37 expressway billboards.

Digital and social activations extend the campaign's shared-language concept across additional consumer touchpoints.
