King’s Hawaiian campaign turns QB slides into a stat

The campaign argues that the decision to slide is a measurable part of quarterback play and could provide another way to compare players.

King’s Hawaiian has teamed up with former NFL quarterback Eli Manning to launch a petition calling for quarterback slides to be recognized as an official football statistic.

The campaign, The Best Slider in Football, highlights the contrast between King’s Hawaiian’s slider buns and Manning’s use of the quarterback slide during his playing career. Fans can sign the petition at BestSliderInFootball.com and submit proof of their signature for a chance to win King’s Hawaiian slider buns for life.

A quarterback slide is a strategic decision to end a play while avoiding a potentially significant hit. While football records statistics including passing yards, rushing yards and sacks, quarterback slides are not currently tracked as an official statistic.

Campaign calls for quarterback slides to be tracked

Raouf Moussa, CMO, King’s Hawaiian: "Sliders are a crucial part of game day, both on and off the field. Therefore, we want to recognize their importance by making them an official stat. We knew we had to team up with one of the most iconic quarterbacks to help right this wrong."

Eli Manning: "The best way to settle a debate about the best slider in football is to look at the stats, so when King’s Hawaiian came up with the stroke of inspiration to track quarterback slides, I couldn’t wait to work with them to bring this to football and slider fans everywhere."

Erich & Kallman creates football campaign for brand

Created in partnership with creative agency Erich & Kallman, the campaign also includes a commercial starring Manning that will run nationwide throughout the football season.

The spot presents Manning’s case for the title of Best Slider in Football, while King’s Hawaiian positions its slider buns as the brand’s answer to the off-field side of the debate.

If quarterback slides were officially recorded, the campaign suggests fans could compare metrics including slides per season, career slides and longest slide. The proposed statistic would also provide a framework for debating which quarterback has recorded the most notable slides.
