Heineken spotlights Amsterdam bar culture in Praise the Bar series
Heineken has released the second episode of its YouTube series Praise the Bar, turning the spotlight on Amsterdam and the city’s iconic Brown Café, Café Papeneiland. The episode celebrates bars as social hubs where community, conversation, and connection thrive.
Located in the Jordaan district, Café Papeneiland is depicted as more than a place to drink—it serves as a living room for locals and a meeting space for neighbours. The episode highlights the value of casual interactions, shared experiences, and spontaneous human connection in an increasingly individualised world.
Capturing local voices
Through interviews with regulars and visitors, the episode illustrates how bars foster closeness and inclusivity. Whether enjoying familiar faces, engaging with strangers, or simply being present together, the series portrays bars as social equalisers where everyone belongs.
Praise the Bar is Heineken’s first original digital mini-series, blending cinematic storytelling with documentary-style filming in real venues. The series emphasizes the cultural significance of bars in everyday life, showcasing how they bring people together across communities and countries.
Continuing the global narrative
Following the series’ first episode in London, Amsterdam reinforces the central theme: bars create spaces where conversations begin, barriers fall, and communities flourish. Episode two is now available on Heineken’s YouTube channel, inviting viewers worldwide to celebrate the connections that happen when people gather at the bar.
