Heineken highlights Rome bar in film series
The episode is set in Rome's Trastevere district and features Meccanismo, a bar that evolved from the historic Café Friends
HEINEKEN has released the Italian edition of its Praise the Bar series, focusing on the role bars play in bringing communities together through everyday social interactions.
The episode is set in Rome's Trastevere district and features Meccanismo, a bar that evolved from the historic Café Friends. Through the venue's story, the film explores how neighbourhood bars continue to serve as places where daily routines, social connections and local communities intersect.
Trastevere venue takes centre stage
The episode follows the transformation of Café Friends into Meccanismo, highlighting the changes the venue has undergone alongside the evolving character of the surrounding neighbourhood.
Located in one of Rome's best-known districts, the bar attracts a broad mix of customers, including students, local residents, creatives, bartenders, tourists and groups of friends. HEINEKEN presents the venue as an example of how bars can foster spontaneous encounters and lasting relationships within local communities.
Story told through community voices
The film features interviews with the venue's owner and members of the local community, reflecting on the challenges and changes that have shaped both the business and the neighbourhood over time. The episode also explores themes including entrepreneurship, resilience and the social role of hospitality venues.
Federico Ferracci, owner of Meccanismo: "For us, Meccanismo has never been just a bar. It’s a place where people meet, recognize each other, and build relationships over time. Seeing this dimension portrayed in ‘Praise the Bar’ is something truly special, because it gives a voice to what we experience every day behind the counter: genuine, spontaneous connections that become part of the neighborhood’s life. I would like to thank the HEINEKEN Italia team for this great opportunity."
Series highlights role of hospitality venues
According to HEINEKEN, the Italian episode forms part of its wider Praise the Bar series, which celebrates the role bars play in creating social connections and supporting local communities.
Stefaan Anckaert, On Trade Sales Director, HEINEKEN Italia: "Places like Meccanismo demonstrate every day that bars are much more than just spaces for consumption: they are gathering points that generate relationships, shared experiences, and value for local communities. It is from this awareness that HEINEKEN Italia’s commitment to supporting the HoReCa channel is born, working alongside its partners to develop increasingly meaningful social occasions for people. With ‘Praise the Bar,’ we aim to celebrate the unique role these venues play within their communities and contribute to enhancing those authentic connections that, even over a beer, can turn a simple moment of consumption into an experience that brings people together."
