Barclays launches money-themed dating show

The campaign aims to encourage more open conversations about money and help people build financial confidence.

Barclays has partnered with social-first creative agency Born Social to launch Statement Dating, a YouTube entertainment series that explores financial compatibility through the format of a dating show.

The series places spending habits, savings goals and financial ambitions at the centre of the dating process. It forms part of Barclays’ wider financial confidence platform and uses entertainment to make conversations about personal finances more accessible.

Barclays uses dating to address money taboos

Research commissioned by Barclays found that 32 percent of respondents would feel uncomfortable discussing money with someone they had recently started dating. The figure exceeds the proportions who would feel uncomfortable discussing sex (27 percent) or mental health (23 percent). Meanwhile, 40 percent said they would find it awkward to raise the subject of money with a dating partner, despite 47 percent believing it is important to find someone with similar financial goals.

Rather than relying on traditional financial education, Barclays and Born Social have developed an entertainment-led format inspired by established dating shows, including Blind Date. The series explores whether financial behaviours and attitudes can reveal compatibility beyond initial attraction.

Statement Dating explores financial compatibility

Hosted by comedian and presenter Ellie Jane Taylor, the series features single participants who assess potential partners across three rounds. The first uses a blind-date-style question-and-answer format, allowing contestants to learn about one another through conversation.

In the second round, participants review snapshots of their matches’ recent spending transactions. The final round explores potential shared futures, including financial priorities and personal ambitions, before the dater chooses a match.

Ollie, a Barclays representative appearing throughout the series, provides the brand’s perspective on financial matters, offering insights into different spending habits and attitudes towards money.

Born Social brings financial conversations to YouTube

The campaign draws on familiar dating-show conventions, with heart motifs, bright cyan colours and playful set design shaping its visual identity. Physical representations of the Barclays app bring financial behaviours into the on-screen dating experience.

Alongside the main YouTube episodes, the campaign includes paid and organic social content, short-form edits, behind-the-scenes material and creator activity featuring Mia McGrath, Connor & Yvonne and Axel Blake. The series launched on YouTube on 26 October 2026, supported by social-first advertising assets.

Barclays and Born Social aim to build financial confidence

Indy Bassi, Chief Marketing & Design Officer, Barclays UK: "Money is one of the most important parts of our lives, yet it remains one of the things we find hardest to talk about - particularly when it comes to relationships. Our research shows just how uncomfortable these conversations can be, with many people avoiding them entirely, or even hiding financial information from their partners. Statement Dating is about making the topic of money feel less daunting, and creating opportunities for open, judgement-free conversations about finances."

Saff Kelly, Creative Director, Born Social: "Whether it's who pays on the first date or whether you get a joint account when you move in together - Money can often be make-or-break in a relationship because it feels too awkward to talk about. We wanted to tackle this by destigmatising money conversations, breaking that taboo by creating something that's a bit of a Trojan horse - it's entertainment first, but we ultimately want people to learn something too."

Ellie Jane Taylor: "Dating is awkward enough and I think money is one of those tricky conversations people usually skirt around for a while. Putting it at the centre of a dating show felt like a really fun way to get people talking about something that can otherwise feel quite uncomfortable or serious. Dating is all about finding someone you're compatible with, learning about each other, and how they could fit into your life. How someone thinks about money can actually tell you a lot about their values, their priorities and what a future together might look like. I loved that we could explore that through real people, keeping the fun of a dating show while tackling a tough subject."

The project builds on the brands’ existing YouTube collaboration, following previous formats including Working Lunch and Counter Argument.
