Micro-budget campaigns fuel influencer marketing boom
Micro-budget campaigns are driving the influencer marketing sector, according to the 2026 report from Collabstr, which points to a shift away from large-scale brand spend toward lower-cost, performance-focused collaborations.
Based on analysis of more than 21,000 collaborations and 200,000 creators, the report shows that smaller companies are playing a growing role in the creator economy, prioritising return on investment over reach.
Low-cost collaborations dominate market
Nearly 80 percent of influencer collaborations now cost under $300, indicating that smaller engagements have become the dominant model across the market.
This trend reflects a broader move toward efficiency, with brands opting for multiple lower-cost partnerships rather than investing heavily in high-profile creators.
Shift toward platform-agnostic content
The report also highlights a decline in platform-specific strategies. Campaigns focused solely on TikTok dropped 48 percent, while platform-agnostic user-generated content (UGC) campaigns increased significantly.
This approach allows brands to reuse content across multiple channels, reducing reliance on any single platform and improving long-term value.
AI influencers face brand resistance
While the number of creators identifying as AI influencers rose by 42 percent year over year, most brands remain reluctant to work with them.
Around 86 percent of brands reported they do not want to collaborate with AI influencers, a notable increase from 56 percent in 2024, suggesting concerns around authenticity and effectiveness.
UGC growth driven by small businesses
UGC campaigns increased by 133 percent year over year, driven largely by small businesses seeking cost-effective and reusable content.
The report also identifies growth in expert-led creator categories, including skilled trades, education and business, as brands look for credibility and subject-matter expertise.
Meanwhile, Instagram continues to play a central role in delivering measurable return on investment, maintaining its position as a key platform for influencer campaigns.
