VENGEAN: From bigger to better
The future of branding is not about scale, but about meaning. It’s lights out for the traditional advertising giants. While the large networks, out of necessity, merge and consolidate, a new reality is emerging: when it comes to branding, the market is not asking for more volume, but for more meaning.
Sir Martin Sorrell (S4 Capital) did not mince his words in a recent interview with Storyboard18 about the merger between Omnicom and IPG: “It’s a consolidation of the weak, not an acceleration of the strong... The traditional part of the industry is under unprecedented pressure. These two companies are built on the old model. When a chill wind blows, people huddle together. Or, as I sometimes put it, this merger is like two drunks propping each other up on a lamppost.”
Bigger is not better. Better is better.
VENGEAN was founded with this adage in mind. Not without reason did the agency recently place a full-page advertisement in the FD with the headline: Bigger is not better, better is better. According to VENGEAN, the recent wave of consolidation among the major networks confirms that vision.
Andy Mosmans, CEO of VENGEAN: “In the stormy climate of our changing industry, the giants are choosing shelter instead of evolution. But can scale still win out over irrelevance? After all, mass is no match for fundamental meaning-making. Branding is meaning making (creating concepts to drive the business vs. creating content to fill channels), a principle with which we at VENGEAN have been challenging the market since our founding five years ago.”
The reappraisal of the brand
The figures seem to confirm that vision. McKinsey concludes in the State of Marketing Europe 2026 report: “CMOs are rediscovering that brand identity is not a relic, but the foundation for resilience and long-term growth.” Branding is back, with a vengeance: the number 1 priority.
Precisely now that the major networks are busy with their own integration and overhead, a compact, independent agency model offers the speed and depth required. No lumbering apparatuses, but experienced strategists and creatives who, as brand co-curators and entrepreneurial sparring partners, work directly with clients to build the business.
The future belongs to those who ignite the fire of a brand. VENGEAN stands and goes for branding, The Game of the Name, that truly integrally drives the business. In 2026 and beyond.
