StreetEasy urges buyers to make NYC a lifetime commitment

StreetEasy is marking its 20th anniversary with a 2026 brand campaign titled Be a Forever New Yorker, positioning home ownership as a long-term commitment to life in New York City.

The campaign builds on last year’s Never Become a Former New Yorker, shifting the focus from the risk of leaving the city to celebrating the reasons to stay. The message reframes New York not as a temporary chapter, but as a place to build a lifetime.

Celebrating long-term life in NYC

At the center of the creative are portraits of older residents described as “forever New Yorkers,” paired with statements such as “Long live New York” and “Make your NYC era last a lifetime.” The work encourages renters and prospective buyers to imagine their future in the city decades from now.

StreetEasy cites data showing that one in five New Yorkers browse homes for sale while also searching for rentals, suggesting sustained interest in long-term residency. With life expectancy in the city averaging 83.2 years, and among the highest in Queens and Kings counties compared with other large US counties, the brand positions New York as a place where people can live longer and remain engaged.

Scott Sparks, Principal Brand Strategist, StreetEasy: "New York is often thought of as a city of renters, but StreetEasy data shows that one in five New Yorkers browse homes for sale while also searching for rentals. To us, that signals many already imagine a future here; they just aren’t sure how to make it last. Home buying here isn’t just a transaction, it’s a declaration: that New York isn’t something you age out of, and that buying here is a way of committing to the life you want to keep living."

Market timing and media rollout

The campaign launches ahead of the spring 2026 market, when more listings and moderating mortgage rates are expected to create renewed buying opportunities. StreetEasy positions its platform as a guide through a competitive and complex housing market.

Developed by StreetEasy’s in-house team in partnership with Mother New York, the campaign marks the third collaboration between the two following work in 2024 and 2025.

Evan Carpenter, Group Strategy Director, Mother: "Every day in New York, we pass incredible characters whom we admire because they’ve been shaped by this incredible city. From iconic institutions and world-class museums to hidden treasures just around the next corner, living here means our lives feel fuller than anywhere else. This campaign is an ode to those New York icons and a promise from StreetEasy that staying here means you, too, can grow old without ever growing bored."

The media plan spans digital and social platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, Pinterest, TikTok, as well as streaming audio on Spotify and Audacy. Out-of-home placements include MTA subway cars and stations, alongside hand-painted murals in Williamsburg and SoHo.

StreetEasy is part of Zillow Group.
