Serena Williams fronts Heineken padel campaign

Heineken has named tennis champion Serena Williams as its new global ambassador in a multi-year partnership centred on promoting social connection through padel.

The campaign introduces a creative platform called Unexpected Doubles, developed by LePub, which uses surprise player pairings to encourage spontaneous social interaction on and off the court.

Surprise appearances drive campaign launch

To launch the partnership, Williams joined amateur padel players in Miami as an unexpected teammate during matches arranged through Playtomic’s booking system. The appearances were designed as hidden-camera experiences, with participants discovering their partner mid-game.

Following the matches, players shared a post-game moment with Heineken 0.0, reinforcing the campaign’s focus on social interaction after sport.

Serena Williams, global ambassador: "For me, it’s always about showing up as my best self. Partnering with Heineken 0.0 reflects the kind of intentional choices I make every day - it’s a no-alcohol option that still lets me stay active, keep moving, and connect with new people. Whether I’m on the padel court or off, I love that I don’t have to compromise."

Padel platform expands social features

The activation builds on Heineken 0.0’s existing collaboration with Playtomic, which introduced Open Match by Heineken 0.0. The feature allows players to join matches with strangers, addressing gaps in player availability while encouraging new social connections.

Participants receive brand rewards after matches, including Heineken 0.0 products, as part of a wider engagement strategy linking sport with social experiences.

Nabil Nasser, Global Head of Heineken: "At Heineken, we believe the most rewarding moments happen when people stay active, social, and open to new connections—without having to compromise. Serena represents that mindset perfectly. Her iconic presence, her confidence, and her love of padel reflect everything Heineken 0.0 stands for: a confident choice for people who want to stay in the game and fully enjoy the social moments around it."

Campaign focuses on spontaneous connections

The Unexpected Doubles concept frames sport as a setting for unplanned interactions, positioning padel matches as opportunities for discovery rather than competition alone.

Bruno Bertelli, CEO and Chief Creative Officer, LePub Worldwide: "With ‘Unexpected Doubles’, Heineken celebrates the magic that sparks when you welcome the unknown. It transforms a simple everyday moment, like booking a game, into something extraordinary, where surprise fuels genuine emotion and shared experiences that feel real, fresh, and socially rewarding. At its core, the idea showcases the power of unpredicted encounters to create lasting impact."

Future activations will introduce additional surprise appearances from other brand ambassadors across global padel events, extending the campaign beyond its initial launch.
