Heinz serves up Mr. Ridiculously Good in new pasta sauce campaign
Heinz has launched a nationwide campaign for its Smooth Tomato Bolognese pasta sauce, created in collaboration with VML The Cocktail and the Mr. Men Little Miss brand. The initiative introduces Mr. Ridiculously Good, a new character designed to engage families through storytelling, live events, retail activations, and social media.
The campaign began in July with a launch event at Waterstones, where families attended the first live reading of an exclusive Mr. Men Little Miss x Heinz storybook and sampled the new sauce. By placing the book in stores before the product appeared on supermarket shelves, Heinz sought to add a playful twist to the traditional product launch.
The second phase of the campaign is now underway, bringing the character from the page into public spaces. A nationwide out-of-home campaign features creative executions in cities including London, Glasgow, Bristol, and Birmingham, highlighting the sauce’s smooth texture and vegetable content.
In-store activations are running across major retailers including Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Waitrose, and Morrisons, with a full storefront takeover at Waitrose’s flagship UK location. Shoppers can explore the world of Mr. Ridiculously Good and win a copy of the limited-edition book. Paid social activity on Instagram and Facebook extends the campaign digitally with animated and interactive content targeting parents.
The Smooth Tomato Bolognese is part of Heinz’s pasta sauce range and is designed with a no-chunk texture to appeal to children who are reluctant to eat vegetables. Research shows more than half of British parents admit to hiding vegetables in meals.
Almudena Rein, head of culinary tomatoes, Kraft Heinz: "Our new pasta sauce is made with busy parents in mind who are looking for a delicious meal to enjoy as a family, designed to calm the chaos, dodge the drama and win over the harshest food critics of them all: kids. With a little help from Mr. Ridiculously Good, we hope we can help parents make mealtimes smooth sailing and ridiculously fun again."
The packaging features Mr. Ridiculously Good across four collectible jars, each tied to a different chapter of the Heinz x Mr. Men Little Miss storybook.
Gloria Hernández, executive creative director, VML The Cocktail: "With Heinz Pasta Sauces, we are always looking for ways to keep building on the legacy of the brand. We seek to tap into culture and stay relevant to our consumers. And this is the mindset that has made possible for the Heinz jar to end up on the covers of this iconic book series."
Silvia Figini, chief operating officer Sanrio (EMEA, India and Oceania) and Mr. Men (Worldwide): "Mr. Men Little Miss and Heinz are two of the UK’s most iconic and beloved brands; instantly recognisable, and part of everyday life for generations, they’ve each earned a special place in the hearts of families across the country. This collaboration brings together two symbols of British culture in a way that feels both fun and deeply familiar. We couldn’t be more excited to see it come to life."
The collaboration is the latest in a series of unconventional campaigns from Heinz and VML The Cocktail, positioning the pasta sauce category as one open to cultural partnerships and storytelling.
