'Dear eBay' campaign taps UK's emotional side of selling with humorous video series
As the UK enters its peak autumn clear-out season, eBay UK is launching a social-first campaign, "Dear eBay," that reframes the act of selling personal belongings as an emotionally rewarding and culturally relevant experience. The campaign is a witty short-form video series designed to address the relatable dilemmas of letting go of treasured - or simply unused - items.
The activation, styled as an agony-aunt inspired mini-series, is fronted by cultural commentators Jack Remmington and Ash Holme, hosts of The Jack & Ash Show podcast.
A light-hearted look at "stuff-life dramas"
In each two-minute episode, Remmington and Holme use humor and candor to offer light-hearted advice to everyday "stuff-life dramas." The content tackles common "love it, list it, let-it-go" scenarios, spanning everything from impulse fashion purchases and unused technology to large household items. The central message aims to persuade consumers that utilizing eBay for a clear-out can feel like a genuine win, both personally and financially.
The campaign is designed to connect the marketplace with timely, everyday moments when people naturally reassess their possessions.
Connecting emotional value with practical tools
"Dear eBay" is the latest extension of eBay UK’s "Spectrum of Value" platform, which was rolled out across major media channels in September. While the series focuses on the emotional side of selling through relatable storytelling, it also highlights eBay’s functional features that simplify the process. These include AI-powered listing descriptions, barcode scanning, and instant pricing suggestions.
By embedding humor and relatability, the campaign seeks to reposition clearing out not just as a practical necessity, but as a rewarding act. The content will be distributed across eBay UK’s Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube channels, supported by talent-led amplification, influencer collaborations, paid social, CRM, and radio promotion.
