&Barr takes SCCU Watchdog to new grounds

The campaign extends one of SCCU’s established brand assets through two commercials featuring Watchdog in unexpected settings

&Barr has launched “Banking on It,” the latest chapter of its Watchdog advertising campaign for Space Coast Credit Union (SCCU), combining creative, public relations, organic social, media and analytics services to promote the credit union’s focus on protecting members’ financial well-being.

The campaign extends one of SCCU’s established brand assets through two commercials featuring Watchdog in unexpected settings. &Barr developed the work to connect with current and prospective members across Florida while reinforcing the credit union’s positioning around financial protection.

&Barr builds campaign around Watchdog character

The “Banking on It” commercials place Watchdog at a soccer match and a Renaissance faire, where the character ignores familiar dog cues such as “walk” and “treat” but reacts to financial terms including “checking” and “banking.”

Joelle Hahn, SVP of Marketing, SCCU: "Watchdog has become one of our members' favorite parts of the SCCU brand, and 'Banking on It' proves he still has surprises left. Every time we put him in a new, unexpected place, it's a reminder that the protection he represents follows our members everywhere, even to a soccer game or a Renaissance faire."

The Watchdog campaign has received industry recognition, including a Gold Graphis Advertising Award, a Silver ADDY Award and a MarCom Platinum in Advertising and Marketing Rich Media Gaming in 2025. It also received two Platinum Vega Awards and a Best of Show Vega Award in 2024.

Campaign uses contrast to reinforce brand message

Christian Wojciechowski, SVP of Creative and Strategy at &Barr: “The strongest brands in the world don't have to rent celebrities for every campaign. They invest in distinctive brand assets and reinforce them from different angles over time. For Space Coast Credit Union, that asset is Watchdog. Every new story strengthens the same belief: protecting members isn't a marketing promise, it's instinct. That's how brands stop begging for attention and start owning a consumers memory."

&Barr is running the campaign across digital advertising, billboards and broadcast media, including major networks, connected TV applications and audio streaming services. The work is available in English and Spanish.

&Barr expands integrated media campaign

The campaign launched in June and is scheduled to run throughout the year across Florida. Its integrated approach brings together &Barr’s creative and communications disciplines with media and analytics to extend the Watchdog platform across multiple channels.

The agency’s work continues to use the character as a vehicle for communicating SCCU’s member-protection message while adapting the concept to different cultural and entertainment settings.
