Mobile gaming emerges as mainstream ad channel

AppLovin Corporation has released a new study, Mobile Gaming: The New Mainstream Consumer Channel, highlighting the growing influence of mobile gaming audiences in the U.S.

The research, prepared by Kantar for Axon by AppLovin, finds that mobile gaming now serves as a mass-reach advertising platform, combining demographic diversity with measurable purchase impact.

The study shows that mobile gamers are influential household decision-makers with significant spending power. Seventy percent of respondents reported making most purchasing decisions and feeling financially comfortable. Nearly 40 percent of gamers said they purchased a product within three months of seeing a mobile gaming ad, with high satisfaction (92%) and strong intent to repurchase (82%), indicating that advertising in mobile games drives real-world sales.

Mobile gaming offers daily engagement and high-frequency touchpoints

The Axon-Kantar report finds that mobile gaming has become a daily habit for most players, with 70 percent playing every day. This makes it one of the most consistent advertising touchpoints available.

Additional findings include:

71 percent of mobile gamers shop online at least weekly, with 77 percent spending $100 or more per month.

Mobile gaming generates positive emotional engagement, with 71 percent of players viewing ads favorably while playing.

Affluent audiences respond particularly well, with over half of households earning $200K+ describing their sentiment toward in-game ads as “very positive.”

Seven in ten affluent gamers report purchasing from an in-game ad, and nearly half converted within the past three months.

These insights underscore mobile gaming as not only an entertainment platform but a highly effective channel for brands seeking broad reach and meaningful consumer engagement.
