Uber and Mother tell reflective festive story

Mother has developed a holiday film for Uber that explores the quiet moments of reflection that accompany trips home during the festive season. Set in the suburbs, where reliable transport can be essential, the story presents an airport ride as the catalyst for thinking about family ties and the ways loved ones show up for one another at this time of year.

Directed by Michael Spiccia of MJZ, Close follows a young woman taking an Uber from the airport to visit her father. As she travels through the familiar streets of her hometown, memories of their relationship resurface, revealing that their previous meeting ended in difficult circumstances. The film underscores how her journey holds more weight than a routine holiday visit.

A reflective narrative supported by atmospheric music

The soundtrack features a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide performed by James Blake, reinforcing the film’s themes of personal change, uncertainty and the passage of time. The campaign runs across cinema, CTV, online video and social platforms in the United States and Canada.

Georgie Jeffreys, Head of Marketing at Uber, North America: "Our first-ever national holiday campaign celebrates families reconnecting this season, and the quiet moments we have to reflect. Whether it’s that first Uber pick-up at the airport or the ride home after a family gathering, Uber is there when you need it, helping to bring loved ones close together this holiday season."

Felix Richter, Chief Creative Officer at Mother: "The idea was simply to showcase an emotional journey within an actual one. A heartfelt family story in the context of the holidays set to an incredibly haunting track by James Blake."
