HEINZ courts millennials recreating sitcom-famous sandwich
HEINZ is shifting its holiday attention to the day after Thanksgiving with the introduction of HEINZ Leftover Gravy, a squeezable format of its Homestyle Turkey Gravy designed for leftover sandwiches. The product aims to support a tradition embraced by many households as Thanksgiving has expanded into a multiday food occasion.
According to the brand, most Americans build leftover sandwiches after the holiday meal, and many consider gravy an essential component. HEINZ drew inspiration from the Moist Maker, a sandwich made popular by a nineties sitcom, and centered its effort on making a gravy-soaked middle slice easier to prepare.
Jamie Mack, Associate Director of Brand Communications, HEINZ U.S.: "While HEINZ Gravy has always been a fan favorite on the Thanksgiving table, we decided to focus our attention on the day after ritual—because we all know leftovers are the best part and our unmistakably rich and smooth gravy makes them that much better."
Jamie Mack added that the Moist Maker became a social media reference point among millennial fans, and the condiment supports those who enjoy recreating the nostalgic sandwich.
HEINZ targets millennial hosts redefining holiday habits
The condiment arrives as HEINZ places greater emphasis on gravy during its key season, particularly for millennial hosts who shape their own holiday practices. Shoppers can purchase a jar of HEINZ Homestyle Turkey Gravy for the main meal and set aside the squeezable version for the day after, making leftover preparation more straightforward.
Starting today, customers ordering a twelve ounce jar of HEINZ Homestyle Turkey Gravy on Walmart.com will receive a limited HEINZ Leftover Gravy Kit, which includes the squeezable bottle and a recipe card for the Ultimate Thanksgiving Leftovers Sandwich, while supplies last.
HEINZ notes that its gravies use turkey broth and deliver a smooth, homemade-style taste intended to complement both the holiday feast and the leftover dishes that follow.
