Genestra Brands launches 'In My Gut Check Era' campaign to champion digestive wellness

Despite the increasing prevalence of digestive health challenges in Canada, more than 57% of Canadians report wanting to improve their gut health but feel unsure how to proceed. Addressing this significant knowledge gap, Genestra Brands, a player in professional-grade probiotics, has launched its third annual national public relations campaign, "In My Gut Check Era."

The campaign aims to reposition the conversation around the microbiome, moving beyond simple digestion to underscore its role as the cornerstone of whole-body wellness. Facing a landscape rife with misinformation and quick-fix health trends, Genestra Brands is renewing its commitment to educating both consumers and healthcare practitioners with science-backed information.

Nigel Plummer, Co-founder and Managing Director, ProVen Biotics: ''The microbiome interacts with almost every part of our physiology, it even drives the development of a competent immune system. Genestra’s HMF Probiotics support this essential community, helping people maintain gut health throughout life. Probiotics are the only living type of supplement, and because they are living, they’re in a sort of limbo suspended animation because we freeze dry them. When you take a probiotic and they reach your stomach and the intestinal tracts, these freeze dried organisms come into contact with water and start to activate again.''

Genestra’s initiative is designed to help Canadians understand that supporting the microbiome is one of the most impactful steps they can take for overall health. The company’s research links a healthy gut to improved immunity, mood, skin, sleep, and energy levels.

Naturopathic Doctor Jacqueline van der Made said: ''What we’re learning from decades of research is that the microbiome is not a passive system, it’s actually constantly interacting with our physiology. When the microbiome is disrupted, we may see ripple effects in areas as diverse as sleep, skin health, and mental well-being. By helping Canadians connect these dots, we can shift the conversation from ‘gut health is about digestion’ to ‘gut health is central to overall wellness.''

Science-backed education for efficacy

A key focus of the campaign is replacing consumer uncertainty with reliable, actionable advice. One practical tip highlighted is the importance of taking probiotics with food. As Dr. Plummer explains, consuming probiotics alongside a meal helps neutralize the stomach's high acidity, creating an optimal pH environment (3.8 to 4.5) for the freeze-dried beneficial bacteria to activate and thrive in the intestinal tract.

The brand's flagship HMF Probiotic Line (Human MicroFlora) is the result of over 35 years of research, including 35 published randomized, placebo-controlled trials.

''The strength of the HMF line lies in its precision with each probiotic strain carefully identified and supported by clinical research, not just assumed to work because of its species. HMF has built one of the most robust scientific foundations in the probiotic field, and for practitioners that means we’re not guessing, we’re choosing products with documented efficacy, safety, and reliability,'' Dr. van der Made affirmed.

With over thirty different probiotic solutions available, Genestra Brands advises consumers to consult a healthcare practitioner to ensure they choose the product best suited to their individual needs.
