Adobe introduces Firefly AI Assistant for creators
Adobe has introduced Firefly AI Assistant, a conversational tool designed to unify creative workflows across its ecosystem and enable users to execute complex tasks through a single interface.
The assistant, set to roll out within Adobe Firefly, allows creators to describe desired outcomes in natural language. It then coordinates multi-step processes across applications including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Express.
Agent-driven workflows reshape creative process
The launch reflects Adobe’s focus on integrating conversational and generative AI into its tools, shifting creative production toward an agent-led model. In this approach, users define creative direction while the system manages execution across different applications.
The company positions this development as a way to reduce manual steps and improve efficiency, particularly for workflows that span multiple tools and formats.
David Wadhwani, President, Creativity & Productivity Business at Adobe: "Adobe is leading the shift into a new era of agentic creativity, where you direct how your work takes shape and your perspective, voice and taste become the most powerful creative instruments of all. Adobe Firefly is a category of one, with the best models, the most powerful tools and now, a fundamentally new way of creating that gives you the combined power and precision of all our creative apps in one place."
Expanded capabilities across video and image editing
Alongside the assistant, Adobe has extended Firefly’s video and image editing features. Updates include enhancements to its video editing environment, such as improved audio handling, advanced colour controls and integration with Adobe Stock.
The platform also adds more precise image editing tools, including features designed to support detailed adjustments and structured editing workflows.
Adobe has broadened its ecosystem of AI models, incorporating third-party technologies to provide users with a wider range of creative options within Firefly.
Integration with external AI platforms
The company plans to extend Firefly’s capabilities beyond its own applications by integrating with external AI systems, including models from Anthropic.
Paul Smith, Chief Commercial Officer at Anthropic: "The best creative work flows between thinking and making. Together with Adobe, we’re exploring new ways to help creators conceptualize a project in Claude and reach straight into Adobe Firefly to execute it. That can bring about a meaningful change in how creative work gets done."
This approach aims to allow creators to move between ideation and execution more seamlessly, connecting third-party AI interfaces with Adobe’s production tools.
