Spotify introduces AI Persona labels for artists

The badge is designed to help listeners distinguish profiles representing real people from those built around AI-generated personas

Spotify is introducing an AI Persona label for artist profiles that use an AI-generated, human-like identity. The badge is designed to help listeners distinguish profiles representing real people from those built around AI-generated personas, while music from labeled profiles will be excluded from personalized recommendations by default.

Starting in mid-September, the label will appear on mobile artist profiles, including the banner and About section, as well as in Search and on track rows across playlists. Artists can disclose that their profile represents an AI Persona through Spotify for Artists, with the option becoming available on August 11.

Spotify combines disclosure with profile reviews

Spotify will not rely solely on artists to identify AI Personas. The company will use human review alongside AI investigative tools to assess artist profiles whose public identity, including names and imagery, appears to represent a photorealistic AI-generated identity.

The initial review will focus on profiles that have met defined audience thresholds, which Spotify says will cover the majority of artist profiles that users visit. Artists whose profiles receive an AI Persona label through Spotify’s review process will be notified and can either self-disclose or appeal the decision.

AI Personas excluded from recommendations

Spotify will exclude AI Personas from editorial and algorithmic recommendations by default. Their music will therefore not appear in personalized recommendations unless, for example, a listener already follows the artist.

The company said the label concerns the identity presented by an artist profile rather than the way its music was produced. Spotify already offers AI Credits and SongDNA to provide information about how AI was used in music creation and the people involved in a track.

Spotify expands artist identity measures

The AI Persona label forms part of Spotify’s broader focus on artist identity and transparency. Other measures introduced in 2026 include Verified by Spotify, which identifies artists presenting themselves as real people, and Artist Details, which provides information based on activity and data from the platform.

Spotify also offers AI Credits, which allow artists to disclose how they used AI during music creation, and Artist Profile Protection, which gives artists greater control over releases associated with their profiles.

Spotify targets transparency around AI music

The company said it is also adjusting its recommendation systems to prioritize human artists and limit the inclusion of spam, low-effort content and other unwanted material.

Spotify plans to expand the AI Persona system in the coming months. Listeners will eventually be able to report profiles they believe represent AI Personas for review, with further details to follow.

The company said its approach will continue to evolve as the use of AI in music changes and as it gathers feedback from artists, listeners and industry partners.
