Salesforce acquires Rune to boost military logistics

The acquisition will add tactical-edge logistics capabilities to Missionforce, Salesforce’s portfolio for government and defence organisations.

Salesforce has agreed to acquire Rune Technologies, a provider of logistics technology for the US military and allied forces. The deal will expand Salesforce’s Missionforce portfolio with capabilities designed to help frontline military teams manage supplies, equipment and personnel, including in environments with limited or no network connectivity.

Rune Technologies connects information from enterprise systems with real-time operational data, helping military logisticians and commanders forecast supply requirements, allocate resources and make decisions in the field. Its technology is designed to support operations in denied, degraded, intermittent or limited connectivity (DDIL) environments.

Salesforce extends Missionforce to frontline logistics

Rune Technologies will complement Missionforce Operations, which automates enterprise processes, by connecting frontline supply and movement requirements with the systems and workflows that support them.

The combined capabilities are intended to improve resource coordination, operational visibility, field service and asset management, supporting readiness across military operations and enterprise systems.

Salesforce described the transaction as its most significant acquisition focused on national security. It follows growth in the company’s defence business, which Salesforce reports has expanded 80 percent year over year since Missionforce launched. Its customers now span all six branches of the US military.

Rune Technologies adds tactical-edge capabilities

Salesforce’s recent defence milestones include a 10-year US Army contract with a ceiling of US$5.6 billion to modernise operations. The acquisition of Rune Technologies would extend this work into frontline logistics and sustainment.

Kendall Collins, President and CEO of Missionforce and Government Cloud, Salesforce: "Salesforce is doubling down on national security with our most significant acquisition in this space. Missionforce is already helping defense organizations modernize operational readiness. Rune Technologies extends that work into frontline logistics, bringing agent-powered capabilities to the tactical edge – keeping equipment, supplies, and personnel moving. Together, we’ll advance our vision for an edge-to-enterprise platform that supports continuous mission readiness."

David Tuttle, CEO and Co-Founder of Rune Technologies: "We built Rune Technologies to build and deliver modern technologies and capabilities for our military sustainers at the front lines, where they need to make critical battlefield decisions even without reliable connectivity. With Salesforce, we can take what we’ve built further, connecting operational logistics from the frontline to the enterprise, supporting the mission to help service members respond faster and stay mission-ready."

Technology connects frontline and enterprise systems

For military branches, allied defence ministries and defence agencies using Missionforce, Rune Technologies is designed to extend operational visibility beyond the reach of reliable networks. Its platform supports personnel status, maintenance workflows, acquisition processes and sustainment plans across garrison, forward-deployed and emissions-control operations. Data is reconciled when connectivity returns.

For military units already using Rune Technologies at the tactical edge, integration with Missionforce is intended to bring frontline decisions into the enterprise systems of record used across the services. Salesforce says this can be achieved without custom integration and will be supported by its platform, security capabilities and delivery infrastructure.

Rune Technologies brings logistics expertise to Missionforce

The companies describe modern defence operations as spanning three connected layers: enterprise systems at headquarters, strategic headquarters planning and the operational edge, where frontline units make decisions under time and connectivity constraints.

Missionforce supports the enterprise and strategic layers, while Rune Technologies adds capabilities at the operational edge. Its platform combines enterprise information with live operational data and is designed to continue operating in DDIL environments before synchronising when connectivity is restored.

The technology uses situational intelligence, simulation and optimisation models to forecast demand and resupply requirements, recommend resource allocation and transport routes, and help teams assess logistics plans before and during operations.

Rune Technologies is already deployed with the US Army and US Marine Corps. Founded in 2024 by David Tuttle and Peter Goldsborough, the company brings together military operations, defence technology and intelligence engineering expertise. Its founders previously held leadership roles at Anduril, and the team includes military veterans and senior technologists.

The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce’s fiscal year 2027, subject to customary closing conditions.
