Chispa turns soccer losses into dates

Within the app, Chispa has introduced a series of digital profile stickers tied to the tournament

Dating app Chispa has launched a campaign that connects soccer fans through shared tournament experiences, using sports results as a starting point for conversation and matchmaking.

Called Lucky Losers, the initiative targets Latino audiences in the United States and combines in-app features, live events, creator content and transportation partnerships to encourage connections among fans during a major international soccer tournament.

Survey explores relationship between sports and dating

The campaign is based on findings from Chispa's Fútbol & Feelings survey, which examined how sports outcomes influence social and dating behaviour.

According to the survey, 48 percent of respondents said they reach out to others after their team is eliminated from a tournament, whether through dating apps, text messages or social gatherings. Only 7.6 percent said they prefer to disconnect and spend time alone after a loss.

The research also found that 97.4 percent of respondents would still consider going on a date following a disappointing result, while 56.5 percent said shared disappointment can help create connections and ease conversations between people meeting for the first time.

Campaign extends beyond the app

As part of the initiative, Chispa has partnered with ride-hailing company Alto to create the Lucky Losers Ride experience in Dallas.

The activation pairs single fans whose teams have been eliminated and offers them a shared ride experience hosted by content creators. Participants who connect during the journey are offered a follow-up dinner date sponsored by Chispa.

The campaign also includes livestream programming hosted by creators Chance, Miriam, XOJAS and Romeo, featuring audience participation, compatibility challenges and interactive matchmaking activities linked to tournament outcomes.

Digital features encourage engagement

Within the app, Chispa has introduced a series of digital profile stickers tied to the tournament.

Users can select national team-themed stickers to signal support for participating countries, while a separate Lucky Losers sticker collection includes phrases designed to communicate dating intentions and encourage conversations between users.

The campaign also includes influencer-led content featuring creators including Inez Lopez, Marlene Chavarria, Andrew Saucedo and Melody Guerra.

Building connections through shared experiences

Chispa says the campaign reflects the role soccer plays within Latino communities, where the sport is often closely linked to social interaction and cultural identity.

Julia Estacolchic, Senior Director of Brand and Marketing at Chispa: "Fútbol is in our blood, and when our team loses, we feel it deeply. But in our culture, we don't go through heartbreak alone; we lean on each other. 'Lucky Losers' is about taking that shared, raw emotion and turning it into a beautiful excuse to connect. And honestly, if you can find a spark in the back of one of our cars after your team just broke your heart, the least we can do is buy you dinner. You've suffered enough!"

The campaign forms part of Chispa's broader Para lo que busques platform, which focuses on helping users connect based on different relationship goals and shared interests.
