Dalziel & Pow designs Next's largest UK store
The project follows previous store openings and refurbishments delivered by Dalziel & Pow, including locations in Stratford City, Eldon Square, Canterbury and Ripon
Global strategy and design studio Dalziel & Pow has designed Next's largest UK store at Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent, as the retailer continues the rollout of its updated retail concept across the country.
The opening sees Next expand its presence at Bluewater to 132,000 square feet, including 83,000 square feet of trading space. The project follows previous store openings and refurbishments delivered by Dalziel & Pow, including locations in Stratford City, Eldon Square, Canterbury and Ripon.
Store design focuses on customer experience
The two-floor store brings together Women's, Men's, Children's and Home departments within a single location. While each department has its own visual identity, the overall design uses a consistent material palette intended to simplify navigation and create a cohesive shopping environment.
Colour is used to distinguish departments, with aqua tones in Menswear, blush pink in Womenswear and grey finishes in the Home section. Glazed materials add texture throughout the store while maintaining a restrained overall aesthetic.
Home department and concessions expand offer
The Home department has been enlarged to accommodate a broader furniture range, with direct access to the rear car park intended to make collecting larger purchases more convenient.
The store also includes a Costa café and a Bath & Body Works concession with its own dedicated entrance, extending the destination beyond the core retail offer.
Lighting and materials shape the environment
Lighting forms a central part of the design, combining ambient and accent lighting with skylights that introduce natural daylight throughout the store. According to Dalziel & Pow, the approach is intended to create a brighter and more comfortable shopping environment.
The design also uses a restrained selection of materials and neutral finishes, contrasted with different textures and architectural details to give each department its own character.
Mark Frankland, Creative Director of Environments, Dalziel & Pow: "With this design, we used materials that would make people feel comfortable and that they might even use at home. The store has a premium feel, but is designed to be welcoming, putting customers at their ease, while making their shopping experience as frictionless as possible."
Long-term partnership continues
Dalziel & Pow has worked with Next for more than 19 years, developing retail concepts to support the retailer's store expansion programme.
Mark Frankland: "We have worked as design partners for Next for over 19 years, delivering new concepts to support their ongoing expansion. We are proud to be launching this new store as Next continues its transformation from its presence on the UK high street to retail powerhouse."
