Avignonesi taps Colangelo & Partners for U.S. PR
Avignonesi has partnered with Colangelo & Partners to expand its presence in the United States. The collaboration aims to strengthen Avignonesi’s profile as a benchmark producer from Montepulciano and as a model of responsible viticulture.
Matteo Giustiniani, CEO & Winemaker, Avignonesi: "We are excited to partner with Colangelo & Partners as Avignonesi enters a period of growth. Our size allows us to have a meaningful impact – on the land, on our community, and on the global perception of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. We believe that scale does not dilute craftsmanship: rather it increases our responsibility. Through agricultural honesty, regenerative practices and a deep understanding of terroir, we aim to demonstrate that large estates can lead with integrity while crafting wines of precision and character."
Sustainable practices drive estate philosophy
Founded in 1974 and named for the Avignonesi family, the estate has been a leading producer in Montepulciano. Since its acquisition by Virginie Saverys in 2009, the family-owned winery has embraced organic and biodynamic practices, achieving Benefit Corporation certification.
Today, under the leadership of Virginie’s children, Basile and Eline Aloy, the 400-acre estate has cut emissions by 45 percent since 2018, transitioned to 80 percent renewable energy, and planted more than 3,000 trees to enhance biodiversity.
Through this approach, Avignonesi nurtures both its land and a community of ambassadors who champion quality and sustainability in Montepulciano. The estate is also contributing to the resurgence of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a terroir-driven Sangiovese expression gaining renewed attention in the U.S. for its freshness, balance, and authenticity.
Celebrating heritage and innovation
The estate continues to honor its history in Cortona, where international varieties like Merlot have found a distinctive voice. Its Desiderio Toscana IGT remains a benchmark expression, combining depth and lively energy as U.S. demand for Merlot grows.
Megan DeAngelo, Italian Group Director, Colangelo & Partners: "Avignonesi represents a compelling evolution within Tuscany. It is rare to see an estate of this scale operate with such clarity of purpose and transparency. Its commitment to stewardship, combined with wines that speak clearly to American palates, positions Avignonesi as a leader not only within Montepulciano, but within the broader conversation about the future of fine wine."
Key estate wines
Alongside Desiderio, Avignonesi produces its Poggetto di Sopra Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG – a 100 percent Sangiovese that highlights the clay-rich soils of Montepulciano and serves as one of the estate’s purest expressions of place.
