Publicis rises after multi-billion acquisition of LiveRamp

Marketing Report Markets | 20 May 2026

Publicis and WPP were the strongest gainers in Marketing Report Markets last week. Publicis gained nearly 8 percent after announcing the acquisition of data company LiveRamp, while WPP benefited from account news and more positive sentiment around international holding groups. Omnicom was the clear loser of the week.

The stock movements show that investors are currently focusing mainly on AI, data, scale, and technological infrastructure. Major acquisitions, AI strategies, and reorganizations are increasingly shaping sentiment around international marcom group

Publicis benefits from LiveRamp acquisition

Publicis rose from 77.54 to 83.70 euros, an increase of 7.9 percent, making it the strongest performer of the week.

The main driver was the announced acquisition of LiveRamp for approximately $2.2 billion. Through the acquisition, Publicis aims to strengthen its position in data collaboration, AI, and so-called agentic business transformation.

Publicis is positioning LiveRamp alongside existing technology companies within the group, including Epsilon, Sapient, and Marcel. In doing so, the company continues to build an integrated data and AI ecosystem for marketing, commerce, and personalization.

Investors responded positively to the strategic direction and the increased growth expectations that Publicis presented immediately after the announcement.

WPP recovers after earlier share price pressure

WPP rose 7.2 percent from 259.50 to 278.30 pence, recovering a large part of the share price pressure from the previous week.

The company was supported by account news surrounding Honda, which appointed EssenceMediacom for media work in Europe. In addition, the market continued to react positively to recent signals that WPP is further streamlining its operations around AI, media, and integrated services.

At the same time, news emerged from WPP’s US organization. Michael Houston is stepping down as president of WPP US. The group has not yet announced a successor.

Dentsu continues stable growth

Dentsu rose from 3086 to 3188 yen, an increase of 3.3 percent, continuing the Japanese holding company’s positive momentum of recent weeks.

Investors reacted positively to quarterly results in which Dentsu reported profit growth, margin improvement, and further progress in its strategic reorganization. The group showed particular improvement in EMEA, while Japan partly compensated for weaker performances in other regions.

Internationally, Dentsu is also positioning itself more clearly as a flexible alternative to larger holding groups. The company is placing increasing emphasis on speed, simplicity, and operational efficiency.

Omnicom posts sharp decline

Omnicom fell from 76.04 to 71.85 dollars, a loss of 5.5 percent, making it the weakest performer of the week.

This happened despite positive signals around the holding company’s media performance. In May, Omnicom topped the global ranking of media holdings and continues to invest heavily in AI agents and media process automation.

Nevertheless, sentiment remained cautious. Investors are closely monitoring how holding companies are dealing with the rapid rise of AI and its possible impact on traditional advertising and media models.

In addition, Javier Campopiano announced his departure from Omnicom Advertising Group, highlighting continued movement within the creative leadership of international holding companies.

S4 Capital and Havas remain stable

S4 Capital rose slightly from 40.85 to 41.85 pence. The stock continues to trade at a relatively low level, but investors appear to be responding somewhat more positively to signs of stabilization within the technology and digital market.

Havas fell slightly from 16.30 to 16.20 euros, remaining relatively stable compared to the rest of the sector.

AI and technology remain dominant factors

This week’s share price movements show that AI, data, and technology have now become the dominant themes within the international marcom sector. Publicis in particular benefited from investor confidence that scale in data and AI will become increasingly important for future growth.

At the same time, investors continue to closely examine reorganizations, margin pressure, and which holding companies are succeeding in adapting their traditional business models to the AI era.
