Omnicom Advertising restructures Hong Kong operations
Omnicom Advertising has confirmed a refreshed agency portfolio and leadership structure for its Hong Kong operations, aligning the market with Omnicom’s updated global organisation following its acquisition of IPG.
The changes include the return of BBDO to Hong Kong as Omnicom’s second creative agency brand in the market, alongside TBWA, following the global retirement of the DDB brand.
BBDO returns as Omnicom realigns brands
Under the revised structure, BBDO will relaunch in Hong Kong, expanding Omnicom Advertising’s creative offering in the market. The move is positioned as part of a broader effort to simplify brand architecture and strengthen creative leadership across key Asia-Pacific hubs.
Andreas Krasser, formerly CEO of DDB Hong Kong, has been appointed CEO of Omnicom Advertising Hong Kong. He will oversee both BBDO Hong Kong and TBWA Hong Kong under the new structure.
John Koay has been appointed chief creative officer of Omnicom Advertising Hong Kong, a newly created role. He will take responsibility for creative leadership across the group, setting creative direction for both agencies and supporting the development of work across the region.
Maggie Cheung has been appointed managing director of BBDO Hong Kong, having previously served as managing partner at DDB. She will be supported by Koman Ko, who takes on the role of managing partner, head of client services. Ida Mak will continue in her role as general manager of TBWA Hong Kong.
Leadership signals regional ambitions
Andreas Krasser, CEO of Omnicom Advertising Hong Kong: "Exciting times lie ahead. With John driving creative excellence across the group and Maggie's operational excellence driving BBDO, alongside our strong leadership in Ida and her team at TBWA, we're positioned to deliver exceptional work. By leveraging Omnicom's intelligence platform, Acxiom's data capabilities, and our connected content engine, the agencies in Hong Kong will be plugged into a vast global ecosystem that opens the door to new opportunities for clients. At the same time, BBDO and TBWA each maintain their own unique culture and positioning, which will continue to define their creative thinking and output."
John Koay, chief creative officer, Omnicom Advertising Hong Kong: "This is a pivotal moment for creativity in Hong Kong. I’m thrilled to build on the legacy of excellence the teams have established and lead the creative vision for Hong Kong. Together, we’ll push boundaries and create world-class work that truly resonates with audiences locally and across the region."
Focus on capability and collaboration
Maggie Cheung: "I’m delighted to step into this role. The launch of BBDO is far more than a simple rebrand. We’re upgrading our capabilities and have brought in fresh talent and perspectives that will help us and our clients do big things."
The Hong Kong restructure is positioned as part of Omnicom Advertising’s wider strategy to strengthen leadership, enhance collaboration and align resources more closely with local market dynamics.
