Ocean Outdoor secures DOOH contract at Gunwharf Quays
Ocean Outdoor has been appointed to manage a new premium digital out-of-home screen at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth, expanding its presence across key retail and leisure destinations on the south coast.
The screen is located within the open-air waterfront outlet centre and is positioned alongside proximity retailers including L’Occitane, Molton Brown, Nike, Boots, Le Creuset and Swarovski. It is expected to deliver around 290,000 impacts per fortnight, based on ROUTE audience measurement data.
Christmas launch and brand opportunity
The screen launched on Monday, 15 December with the Royal Navy’s 2025 Christmas campaign, Silent Night: On the Frontline. The film draws on the experiences of HMS Diamond during its 2023 deployment in the Red Sea, combining recreated scenes with operational footage captured during a live drone interception.
Gunwharf Quays is positioned as a high-value environment for brands during the peak retail period, benefiting from last-minute Christmas shopping as well as sustained footfall across Boxing Day and January sales.
Strong retail performance at Gunwharf Quays
The centre reported record sales and footfall in 2024, followed by three consecutive record sales quarters in 2025. Visitor numbers are expected to exceed eight million, putting the destination on track for another record year.
Ocean’s appointment at Gunwharf Quays adds Portsmouth to its existing south coast portfolio, which already includes Southampton and Bournemouth. Together, the three locations form a network of premium coastal destinations spanning major commercial, retail and cultural hubs.
Expanding Ocean’s premium retail footprint
Nick Shaw, incoming CEO, Ocean Outdoor UK: “Ocean ends the year with a fantastic new contract and a significant opportunity for brands to reach audiences at one of the busiest times of the year. Gunwharf Quays is a strong addition to our portfolio as we continue to invest in high-quality digital out-of-home locations across the south coast.”
The DOOH appointment forms part of Landsec’s ongoing multi-million pound investment in Gunwharf Quays, which is classified as a top one percent retail destination in the UK.
Mark Hodgson, Senior Commercial Media Development Manager, Landsec: “One of the key strengths of Gunwharf Quays is its consistent year-round footfall. The introduction of premium digital out-of-home media supports our wider investment programme and our ambition to deliver a best-in-class visitor experience.”
Ocean Outdoor also manages the Piccadilly Lights screen in London on behalf of Landsec, a contract that was extended earlier this year.
