[Marketing Week] Bob Koigi: Micro-budgets fuel influencer boom
The influencer marketing boom is no longer fueled by million-dollar mega-deals. The real engine is micro-budget, performance-driven campaigns. In its 2026 report based on over 21,000 collaborations and 200,000 creators, influencer marketplace Collabstr noted that nearly 80 percent of collaborations now cost under $300, signaling a definitive shift away from splashy celebrity endorsements.
Smaller brands are driving this change, prioritizing ROI and pursuing multiple low-cost partnerships instead of betting big on single high-profile creators.
At the same time, content strategy is evolving. Platform-specific campaigns are losing ground, with TikTok-only efforts dropping sharply while platform-agnostic user-generated content (UGC) surges. The appeal is clear: reusable content that can travel across channels delivers longer-term value and reduces dependence on any single platform.
The takeaway is clear: influencer marketing is entering a more disciplined phase—leaner, more data-driven, and increasingly shaped by smaller players who are redefining how value is created and measured.
