Manchester City Council renews OOH deal with Ocean Outdoor

Manchester City Council has awarded its large format Out of Home (OOH) advertising contract to Ocean, extending a partnership that has been in place since 2010.

The 10-year contract begins in October 2025, with the option of a five-year extension. Ocean will upgrade the city’s portfolio, converting existing backlit sites to digital and introducing new technology to strengthen Manchester’s position as a leader in Digital Out of Home (DOOH).

The agreement covers 16 large format screens, including Two Towers Manchester, the Digi-Bridge on Mancunian Way and Princess Road. Plans also include a new screen on City Link Walk, targeting fans and visitors heading toward the Etihad Stadium. The network will continue to deliver a mix of commercial, council and public service messages.

Phil Hall, CEO, Ocean Outdoor UK: “Ocean has been delivering services to Manchester for 15 years. Our renewed partnership with Manchester City Council represents a significant growth opportunity, allowing for direct reinvestment back into public services via enhanced commercial opportunities.”

Ocean has also pledged wider social and environmental benefits. This includes education and career initiatives through the Ocean Academy and INTO University, as well as grassroots community support. The programme aligns with Manchester City Council’s ambition to reach net zero by 2038.

Phil Hall: “Our MCC partnership is supported by a comprehensive social enterprise programme with a focus on education, jobs and careers; making environment improvements which fully align with MCC’s 2038 net zero goals; and grassroots support for the communities where we work.”

Ocean’s wider Manchester portfolio includes more than 100 large and small format screens across the city centre, covering retail, business, leisure and residential districts such as Spinningfields, St John’s, Arndale and Manchester Printworks, which houses Europe’s largest digital ceiling.

Ranked as the UK’s most liveable city in The Economist’s 2024 Liveability Index, Manchester remains one of Europe’s fastest-growing destinations and the third most visited city in the UK.
