Interpublic posts strong second-quarter margins ahead of Omnicom merger

Interpublic Group (IPG) has reported the second-quarter 2025 earnings, showing solid operating margins and continued strategic restructuring efforts despite a dip in organic revenue.

The company posted total revenue of $2.5 billion, including $2.2 billion in net revenue (revenue before billable expenses), down 3.5% organically from the prior year due to earlier account losses. Total reported net income was $162.5 million, which includes $88.4 million in after-tax restructuring charges. Adjusted earnings per share stood at $0.75, up from $0.61 a year ago, while reported diluted earnings showed a $0.44 loss per share.

CEO Philippe Krakowsky emphasized the company’s margin strength and operational progress, especially in media, healthcare, sports marketing, and PR.

Philippe Krakowsky, CEO, Interpublic: "We continue to evolve, embedding AI and tech into our services while delivering real outcomes for clients," said Krakowsky.

The company’s adjusted EBITA (excluding restructuring and deal costs) was $393.7 million, with a margin of 18.1%, marking significant year-over-year improvement.

Looking ahead, IPG reaffirmed its full-year outlook of a 1–2% organic revenue decline, while expecting to exceed previously targeted EBITA margins of 16.6%, citing strategic transformation progress and resilient client activity.

The report also noted:

Restructuring charges reached $321.3 million for the first half, part of a broader plan expected to total up to $400 million by year-end.

Cash balance at quarter’s end was $1.56 billion, with total debt steady at $2.96 billion.

Share repurchases totaled $188.3 million for 7.4 million shares in H1 2025.

Dividend payments for Q2 were $121.1 million, or $0.33 per share.

IPG’s planned merger with Omnicom remains on track for completion in the second half of 2025, with continued strong support from clients and staff.
