Hamburg-based SaaS startup plancraft raises €38m to transform Europe's construction with AI
plancraft, a Hamburg-based SaaS construction tech company, has secured €38 million Series B funding led by Headline with participation from existing investors Creandum, HTGF and xdeck. This brings plancraft's total funding to over €50 million and marks a pivotal moment not just for the company, but for an entire industry on the brink of transformation.
The funding will be use to solve one of Europe's most pressing challenges: a construction sector that's simultaneously facing a workforce crisis and urgent climate demands. In addition to the need for new, climate-friendly construction, Europe must carry out extensive renovation and refurbishment work. However, there's lack of labor necessary for this enormous task.
Europe's construction industry is at a breaking point. The continent is responsible for 40% of global CO2 emissions while dealing with an aging workforce that's shrinking faster than we can replace it. Countries across the continent - from Germany to Italy, the Netherlands to Austria - are reporting the same story: too few skilled workers, too much regulatory complexity, and too little time to meet climate targets requiring massive building retrofits. Traditional solutions aren't working. The industry can't train workers fast enough, and conventional construction software has failed the people who actually swing the hammers and operate the machinery. Here's the uncomfortable truth: while office workers enjoyed decades of digital transformation, construction workers were left behind with complex software that required them to become IT experts just to do their jobs.
plancraft was founded on a simple principle: construction workers shouldn't need to learn software - software should learn to work with construction workers. That's why plancraft build an AI that responds to how people naturally communicate: through voice. Talking to your colleagues, boss or client is the most natural thing for most people. Workflows that mirror how construction actually happens dramatically decrease adoption barriers that have kept this industry decades behind others.
Everyone who is able to speak just needs to learn a friction of the UI complexity and can use screens to simply review if everything was understood and processed correctly. Even in situations where either people or a construction site does not allow for voice capture, plancraft is built on our guiding principle to be not only easy-to-use, but aligning on how you work. "The only software skill you need is your voice" isn't just a tagline - it's plancraft's mission to make technology as natural as having a conversation with your best teammate.
Across Europe, over 20,000 tradespeople are already using plancraft to transform how they work. From carpenters in Hamburg to painters in the Netherlands, plancraft has learned that when technology truly serves construction workers instead of fighting them, adoption happens overnight. But here's the scale of the opportunity: those 20,000 customers represent just a tiny fraction of Europe's nearly 4 million construction companies. Most are still trapped in manual processes, drowning in paperwork, and struggling with productivity challenges that AI could solve today.
This funding allows plancraft to accelerate toward a future where AI doesn't just take commands - it becomes your intelligent teammate. Imagine AI that proactively manages customer interactions, generates tailored quotes based on real-time material costs and availability, and optimizes your workforce allocation so you can focus on what you do best: delivering exceptional craftsmanship. That's not science fiction. That's plancraft's roadmap, and this funding brings it within reach.
This Series B wasn't about runway - it was about seizing a moment when market timing, technological capability, and urgent need converge perfectly. European governments are mandating building retrofits for climate goals while facing severe labor shortages. The productivity gap between construction and other industries has never been more critical to close. And for the first time, AI technology is mature enough to work reliably in construction environments.
This funding will power plancraft's expansion from a scattered presence across European markets into a unified, pan-European platform that connects and empowers construction professionals continent-wide. plancraft is not just scaling software - its building a community. Transforming isolated tradespeople into a thriving, AI-empowered ecosystem where knowledge, efficiency, and best practices spread faster than ever before.
