Chelsea anthem tops Premier League walkout ranking
Chelsea’s matchday anthem The Liquidator has been crowned the highest-scoring walkout song in the Premier League, following an analysis of musical qualities that shape pre-match atmosphere. The track leads the table with a Walkout Score of 91.67 out of 100.
The study, carried out by Betano Casino, reviewed the official walkout songs used by all 20 Premier League clubs. Using Spotify audio data, the research assessed measurable attributes including energy, valence, danceability, loudness and liveness to create a Walkout Index score.
Chelsea leads, Everton and Palace follow
Harry J Allstar’s The Liquidator, a fixture at Stamford Bridge since 1969, recorded an energy rating of 97.07 out of 100 and a near-perfect valence score. Everton ranks second with Theme from Z-Cars, scoring 80.38 out of 100, supported by the highest energy level among the top ten at 99.61. Crystal Palace places third with Glad All Over by The Dave Clark Five, which achieved a Walkout Score of 76 and one of the strongest energy results in the top tier.
Fourth place goes to West Ham United’s I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles, scoring 72.07. The anthem recorded the highest valence score of the entire list. Fulham completes the top five with Escala’s Palladio, which delivered the highest energy rating across all analysed tracks.
Traditional fan favourites perform strongly
Wolverhampton Wanderers take sixth place with Jeff Beck’s Hi Ho Silver Lining, followed by Brentford in seventh with Hey Jude by The Beatles. Brighton’s Sussex by the Sea ranks eighth. Bournemouth’s Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes claims ninth, and Aston Villa completes the top ten with Escape by Craig Armstrong.
Traditional or fan-led anthems performed well compared with more cinematic selections used by some clubs, which scored lower on valence and danceability.
Study highlights emotional role of music
Betano Casino spokesperson: “Music has long played an important role in football culture, setting the atmosphere and energising both players and supporters before kick-off. The findings highlight how the right song can become inseparable from a club’s identity, uniting generations of fans through rhythm, joy, heartbreak, nostalgia and emotion.”
