Best Buy Canada selects Perion for retail media

Best Buy Canada has selected Perion as its technology partner to support the monetisation of its in-store digital signage network, marking a move towards a programmatic retail media model.

Under the agreement, Perion will provide the technology infrastructure for Best Buy Canada's in-store digital out-of-home (DOOH) advertising network, which the companies say will become one of the largest supply-side platform-enabled retail media networks in Canada.

Retail media expansion

The partnership expands Best Buy Canada's use of programmatic advertising technology within its physical retail environment, enabling brands and agencies to access in-store advertising inventory through automated buying systems.

For Perion, the agreement strengthens its presence in the retail media sector, an area that continues to attract investment from retailers seeking additional revenue streams from their advertising assets.

Full technology suite deployed

Best Buy Canada will implement Perion's advertising technology stack, including ad serving, supply-side platform (SSP) and header bidding capabilities.

The company said the deployment will replace existing systems with a unified platform designed to manage advertising inventory and support campaign delivery across its in-store network.

Shift from traditional signage model

According to the companies, the platform will move Best Buy Canada's digital signage operation away from a scheduled loop-based model towards impression-level decisioning, where advertising content can be selected and delivered dynamically.

The approach is intended to provide advertisers with more detailed performance measurement and greater flexibility in campaign execution.

Retailer focuses on measurement

Thierry Hay-Sabourin, Senior Vice President - Ecommerce, Marketplace & Marketing, Best Buy Canada: "Perion provides the technology foundation to help modernize and scale our in-store media offering. A programmatic-first, loopless model enables more effective, measurable experiences for brands and agencies, while unlocking the valuable advertising moments that our in-store environment offers."

The partnership forms part of a broader trend in retail media, where retailers are integrating advertising technology into both online and physical shopping environments.

Perion highlights infrastructure strategy

Tal Jacobson, CEO, Perion: "By serving as a foundational infrastructure for a market leader such as Best Buy Canada, we demonstrate that our Perion One strategy allows us to win complex, enterprise-level mandates. We are creating a repeatable playbook to modernize retail media networks globally, ensuring sustainable growth and deeper strategic relationships with high-value partners."

Perion said the agreement supports its strategy of expanding infrastructure-based advertising services and increasing access to premium retail media inventory through long-term technology partnerships.
