Spectrum, Optimum boost local news, ad reach

The companies said the agreement will give more viewers access to reporting focused on local stories, weather, politics and community issues

Spectrum and Optimum have reached a strategic agreement to expand local news distribution and advertising capabilities across key US markets, including the New York metropolitan area, Texas and North Carolina.

The agreement will restore Spectrum News NY1 on Optimum TV and News 12 on Spectrum TV in the New York metropolitan area in September. It will also bring Spectrum News to Optimum TV customers in Texas and North Carolina, while a separate arrangement will expand Spectrum Reach’s advertising sales representation for Optimum’s western markets.

Spectrum and Optimum expand local news access

Mike Bair, Executive Vice President, Spectrum Networks: "Together, we're expanding access to trusted local journalism while creating even greater value for our customers. Our local news teams are deeply connected to the communities they serve, and we're pleased to bring that reporting to even more viewers while restoring access to iconic local news brands across the New York market."

The reciprocal carriage arrangement will give Optimum customers access to Spectrum News NY1’s coverage of New York City and return News 12 to Spectrum customers. Optimum TV customers in Texas and North Carolina will also gain access to Spectrum News, which provides around-the-clock local news, weather, breaking news and community coverage.

Local news networks broaden their reach

The companies said the agreement will give more viewers access to reporting focused on local stories, weather, politics and community issues. Spectrum News and News 12 both operate 24/7 local news networks serving communities across their respective footprints.

Keith Bowen, President of News, Programming & Business Services, Optimum: "This agreement reflects our continued focus on delivering the content and experiences our customers value most. By expanding local news offerings and strengthening our advertising capabilities through this collaboration with Spectrum, we're enhancing the customer experience while positioning our business for continued growth. It's a great example of how two industry leaders can work together to better serve viewers, advertisers and the communities we both call home."

Spectrum Reach expands advertising role

Under a separate agreement, Spectrum Reach will provide advertising sales representation for Optimum’s West markets, covering approximately 30 designated market areas across the central, southern and western United States.

The arrangement combines Optimum’s customer relationships and local market expertise with Spectrum Reach’s advertising technology, operational scale and multiscreen capabilities. The companies will offer advertisers opportunities to reach audiences across television and digital platforms.

Advertising partnership targets evolving viewing habits

The expanded sales operation is intended to give advertisers greater efficiency, audience insight and scale as viewing habits continue to shift across screens.

The companies said the arrangement will also support development across their advertising businesses, combining local market knowledge with Spectrum Reach’s broader advertising infrastructure.

The collaboration follows Spectrum News’ expansion across additional distribution platforms and markets. Spectrum has also expanded its news offering through streaming and Spanish-language services, while its mobile app has surpassed 6 million downloads.
