[Marketing Week] Bob Koigi: Media shakeup: Who will win WBD?

In a dramatic escalation of the fight for Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), Paramount Skydance has submitted a revised acquisition proposal, forcing the WBD board to acknowledge that the bid could potentially be superior to its existing agreement with Netflix.

This move intensifies a high-stakes battle that will reshape the media landscape. Analysts say the competitive process could lift the Hollywood powerhouse’s valuation and reshape the future of content production, distribution, and streaming, with implications for consumers, creators, and Wall Street.

Market reaction has been telling, with WBD shares seeing a slight decline and Netflix shares rising 1.5% amid the uncertainty. As the March 20 shareholder vote on the Netflix deal approaches, WBD finds itself at the center of a bidding war that will determine whether it is broken up or acquired whole.
