BritBox unveils refreshed brand identity with Sibling Rivalry
BritBox, the streaming service for British television in North America, Australia and the Nordics, has introduced an updated brand identity developed with creative company Sibling Rivalry, marking the next stage in the streaming service’s brand evolution across North America, Australia and the Nordics.
The work aims to clarify BritBox’s positioning as a British-focused curator in an increasingly crowded streaming market.
Rather than a full reinvention, the project focused on evolving existing brand equity. Sibling Rivalry reviewed years of organic growth and informal brand use, translating those elements into a structured system covering visual identity, motion, tone of voice and sound. The result positions BritBox as a specialist British streamer defined by curation and perspective rather than volume.
Brand clarity and cohesion
Abby Elkin, VP, Brand and Creative, Britbox: “This refreshed identity strengthens the clarity and confidence of the BritBox brand. Sibling Rivalry understood our brief to evolve the brand and bring it to life through a flexible, modular system that expands our creative toolkit and elevates premium perception. What stands out most are the ways the new identity captures our perspective and highlights the wit, charm, and nuance that define British storytelling. It sharpens our voice and creates much-needed cohesion for our audiences across the consumer journey.”
The identity builds on the “See It Differently” campaign launched in spring 2025, which reframed British content as a creative perspective rather than a geographic label. The campaign challenged familiar stereotypes by highlighting the range of genres within British television.
Design rooted in curation
Building on that approach, Sibling Rivalry focused on the craft and restraint associated with British storytelling. The design moves away from familiar national symbols, replacing the previous red-and-blue palette with a simplified, single-colour mark supported by an expanded font and colour system. This shift is intended to create a more contemporary and consistent brand presence while remaining recognisable to existing audiences.
At the centre of the visual system is the box motif, used as a framing device rather than only a logo container. The box appears across marketing, user interface and promotional materials, framing characters and scenes to create a consistent BritBox signature even when the logo itself is absent.
Macro moments and sonic identity
The system also introduces a set of layouts known as macro moments. These combine the box icon with close-up textures that connect characters to place, reflecting how British storytelling often links environment and narrative.
Sound plays a central role in the identity. Working with composer Joel Pickard, Sibling Rivalry developed a short sonic mnemonic designed to feel recognisably British without relying on pastiche. The sequence is lightly melodic and forms part of a wider sonic toolkit used across idents, promotional endboards and product interactions.
Motion and rollout plans
The sonic elements were developed alongside motion principles so that sound and movement work together. The box device moves across the wordmark before settling above the letter i, creating a consistent visual and audio expression. Sibling Rivalry also delivered a motion toolkit to support consistent use across the platform, including streaming endpages and promotional assets.
Bo Bishop, strategy director, Sibling Rivalry: “BritBox was already successful, profitable and well loved, but its brand lived more in instinct than in a cohesive system. Our job was to distill everything down to a single, memorable idea and bring that to life in a way that feels confident, contemporary, and distinctly BritBox.”
The updated identity will be introduced across product and communications as BritBox continues to expand its presence in streaming.
