DPG Media signs Inclusivity Charter
DPG Media has signed a Charter Inclusiveness. This marks a major step in the media company's inclusiveness and diversity goals .
DPG Media undertakes to work even more on inclusiveness and diversity in the workplace and in its media products and is rolling out a concrete action plan for this.
The Inclusive Charter was signed by Kris Vervaet, CEO DPG Media Belgium, all members of the Belgian executive committee, the editors-in-chief and the channel managers of DPG Media. This happened in the presence of Flemish Media Minister Benjamin Dalle.
Kris Vervaet, CEO DPG Media, Belgium : “With this charter we want to demonstrate that we as a company are serious about taking steps forward in the field of inclusiveness, diversity and social safety. We want to share this sincere, concrete ambition through the charter with all our employees and with important partners such as advertisers and, of course, with all our readers, viewers and listeners. Internally and in the outside world I notice a great deal of support for this theme and that confirms that we are taking the right steps forward."
Benjamin Dalle, Flemish minister of Brussels, Youth and Media: “Media companies must be recognizable to all Flemish people. Inclusiveness and diversity are essential here: both in the workforce and on the screen. Our society is becoming increasingly diverse. It is very important that our media companies evolve with them. I am delighted that DPG Media is taking the lead in this.”
The Charter Inclusiveness focuses on multiple dimensions of diversity: diversity of thinking, acting, cultural background, gender, sexual orientation… In addition, DPG Media focuses on a safe working environment and awareness of the power of differences. By building on this diverse and inclusive organisation, DPG Media aims, according to the charter, to 'represent all Belgians and express the different points of view and perspectives in words and images'.
In order to realize the commitments listed in the charter, DPG Media set up an Inclusiveness Task Force. This Task Force annually draws up an action plan in which the objectives, investments and concrete responsibilities are clearly defined.
Kris Vervaet: “As the largest media company in Belgium, we bear the responsibility to radiate diversity in our organization as well as in our media. This ambition has always been there, but for a few months now, four working groups have been working behind the scenes with great focus and decisiveness on a number of projects. Since then, our recruiters have been more consciously writing more inclusive vacancies, our news media offer more diversity in image and word, and when making TV programs, the diverse society that we are is more than ever taken into account. I am looking forward to the next steps that will be taken.”
