DPG Media and Groupe Rossel finalize acquisition of RTL Belgium
DPG Media and Groupe Rossel have announced that the acquisition of RTL Belgium has been finalized. From now on, it is possible to work together on a strong future story in which the further digital transformation of RTL Belgium is central.
In June 2021, DPG Media and Groupe Rossel announced their acquisition plans, which have been finalized today: DPG Media and Groupe Rossel are each 50% shareholder of RTL Belgium, the company that owns, among others, the TV channels RTL TVI, Club RTL & Plug RTL. , the radio stations Bel RTL & Radio Contact and their digital derivatives, the streaming service RTLplay, the news platform RTL Info and the advertising agency IP Belgium.
The takeover fits in with the ambition to structurally strengthen the media landscape in French-speaking Belgium. Efforts will therefore also be made to accelerate the digital transformation of RTL Belgium's radio and television channels. Long-form and short-form online video are, after all, rapidly growing segments, and radio also offers opportunities with the development of digital radio and podcasting.
The digital transformation also opens up a range of new possibilities for advertisers: in the future, work will be done on a more efficient and innovative digital offering.
The new shareholders are no strangers to each other. Groupe Rossel and DPG Media ran Mediafin together for thirteen years, the publisher of De Tijd, among others, and their advertising departments have been working together for years.
Bernard Marchant, CEO, Groupe Rossel: "A shareholder change is an important step for a company. Our project for RTL Belgium is ambitious and proactive. The strong and complementary partnership that we enter into with DPG Media gives RTL Belgium's teams the opportunity to to grasp and leverage in a rapidly changing media landscape. We are delighted to be able to get started."
Kris Vervaet, CEO, DPG Media Belgium: “We are looking forward to sharing our passion and expertise with our colleagues from RTL Belgium. DPG Media has invested heavily in digital transformation. We can now make that knowledge and tools available to RTL Belgium. The importance of a cross-media and digital offer for both consumers and advertisers is growing rapidly, both in the North and South of the country. Here we can join forces to make the range and brands of RTL Belgium even stronger, and to allow them to grow further in a rapidly changing media world."
Philippe Delusinne, CEO, RTL Belgium: "Like all my management team, I am very happy today with the new shareholders that we can welcome. The convergences and synergies that we will now develop together with the DPG Media Group and the Rossel Group will allow us to accelerate the adjustments that are crucial to bring to a successful conclusion the challenges our industry is facing. I would like to sincerely thank our partners at RTL Group for their trust and for the results we have achieved thanks to them: all our media is glowing with health. Another way open for RTL Belgium: we are ready!”
