Storyworth campaign explores family bonds
Creative production agency Avocados and Coconuts has developed and produced a major campaign for Storyworth, marking the company’s largest brand video initiative to date. The film, Three Generations, explores the evolving relationship between a mother and daughter through moments shaped by the questions the daughter asks throughout her life.
The campaign has launched across broadcast and digital channels in thirty- and fifteen-second formats.
Campaign explores storytelling across generations
Three Generations opens with a young girl asking about a scar on her mother’s arm, setting the tone for a series of vignettes that trace their relationship from childhood through adulthood and into motherhood. The spot closes with the line Every Question Leads to a Story Worth Passing Down, underscoring the platform’s focus on preserving family narratives.
Nick Baum, Storyworth Founder and CEO: “Connection is at the heart of everything we do at Storyworth. Avocados and Coconuts beautifully brought to life the ways we grow closer to the people we love most by asking them questions and preserving their stories for the next generation.”
Creative approach rooted in emotional authenticity
Dalia Burde, founder and executive producer at Avocados and Coconuts, said the agency aimed to reflect the brand’s emphasis on family connections.
Dalia Burde: “Storyworth is a brand that beautifully honors and memorializes the generational bonds within families. Our goal was to capture that ethos with a story grounded in human and emotional connection, using the narrative device of the daughter’s questions as a subtle yet engaging way to show how the platform preserves family stories across generations.”
Director Matthew Palmer guided the creative development through a documentary-informed lens, despite the scripted and cast nature of the shoot.
Matthew Palmer: “Storyworth’s brand is rooted in authenticity—ordinary people sharing extraordinary memories—so it was important that nothing felt staged or overly composed. We cultivated space for genuine reactions and spontaneous gestures, encouraging the actors to draw from their own experiences to allow the emotions to land naturally, rather than performatively.”
Cinematography and design reinforce lived-in realism
Cinematographer Sarah Simka Jaffe used fluid, handheld camera work to create intimate, memory-like scenes, with moments of stillness providing room for reflection. Production design supported the sense of time passing through subtle environmental cues such as shifts in wardrobe, décor and colour palettes. The campaign was filmed in a home in Berkeley, California.
Avocados and Coconuts shaped the final tone through editorial rhythm, colour work and sound design, giving each vignette a distinct texture while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic.
Amani King, executive creative director. Avocados and Coconuts: “Ultimately, Storyworth is a brand rooted in reflection and legacy, a theme we aspired to honor with a story that felt less like a commercial and more like a shared memory that is familiar and lingers with the viewer. It was a shared vision that Storyworth was on board with from the word go, as we collaboratively aligned in making something that honored the beauty of family and everyday memories.”
