Sony expands global media centers with Tokyo facility
Sony will launch its Digital Media Production Center Japan (DMPC Japan) in February 2026 at its headquarters in Minato-ku, Tokyo.
The facility is Sony’s third global production hub, following locations in the United States and the United Kingdom, and is designed to advance media production by providing creators with a comprehensive environment for filming, post-production, virtual production, and XR-based spatial content creation.
The new center enables end-to-end verification of media production workflows, allowing creators to test the latest cinema cameras, lighting, production studios, and post-production equipment. DMPC Japan will also collaborate with Sony’s U.S. and U.K. centers to share techniques, expertise, and successful production cases globally.
Studios and post-production under one roof
The facility houses fully equipped production studios featuring the CineAlta VENICE 2 and Cinema Line cameras, professional lighting, and sets supervised by the Japan Film and Television Art Directors Association. Post-production areas include the BVM-HX3110 reference monitor for precise color grading and BRAVIA 9 displays for client evaluation. By co-locating production and post-production spaces, DMPC Japan enables efficient workflows from shooting to finishing.
Virtual production and XR capabilities
DMPC Japan includes an In Camera VFX studio with a Crystal LED wall, OCELLUS camera tracking, and Sony’s Virtual Production Tool Set. Multi-camera live switching and broadcasting capabilities are supported via HDC F5500 system cameras and the MLS X1 live production switcher.
The facility also features Sony’s XYN™ XR solutions for spatial content creation, including motion capture technology, glasses-free 3D viewing via Spatial Reality displays, and 3DCG production tools. These resources aim to expand creators’ expressive possibilities and explore new entertainment experiences.
Masterclasses and professional development
Ahead of the official opening, DMPC Japan hosted a masterclass in January 2026 as part of the "Cinematic Quantum" program organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, the Japan Arts Council, and the Japan Society of Cinematographers. International cinematographer Oren Soffer led practical training for professionals, demonstrating the center’s capabilities in advanced production techniques.
DMPC Japan will initially serve professional creators and later support the next generation of talent, particularly in XR and spatial content creation, helping to advance the global media production industry.
