Premier Inn highlights sleep science in social push

UK hotel brand Premier Inn has launched a social-led campaign developed with Born Social, using comedic storytelling to highlight the brand’s focus on sleep quality. The campaign brings its platform You Know What You're Getting to life through a series of exaggerated experiments designed for digital audiences.

The initiative centres on short-form social content aimed at increasing awareness and consideration among younger travellers. It reinforces the brand’s positioning around consistency while supporting its ambition to appeal to a broader, multi-generational customer base.

Turning sleep science into entertainment

The campaign builds on Premier Inn’s investment in sleep research, from mattress design to temperature control and pillow testing. While these processes typically remain out of view, the creative approach puts them at the forefront through humour.

Under the concept Predictability Perfected, the work demonstrates how the brand tests its products rather than relying on traditional claims. The result is a series of scenarios that translate technical processes into accessible, entertaining content.

Comedic experiments drive social storytelling

At the centre of the campaign is Al Nash, who plays a fictional sleep researcher in a mock laboratory setting. The films draw on his understated comedic style, familiar to audiences on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

The experiments exaggerate real testing methods. One scenario uses suspended hairdryers to assess temperature control, while another drops heavy weights onto pillows to demonstrate durability. A third features a mechanical device repeatedly compressing a mattress to simulate long-term use.

The visual approach combines understated British humour with a handcrafted, experimental aesthetic, referencing the style of Wallace & Gromit. Branded elements, including the company’s signature purple colour, appear subtly throughout.

Extending reach across platforms

The campaign runs across both organic and paid channels, including YouTube and Facebook. Media planning and buying is handled by OMD, while consumer PR is led by Golin.

This activity builds on earlier work developed by Leo Burnett, which introduced the You Know What You're Getting platform through television advertising featuring Lenny Henry.

Brand and agency perspectives

Louise Woodiwiss, Head of Brand Marketing at Premier Inn: "Premier Inn has always been obsessed with delivering a great night's sleep, but much of the testing and science behind that happens behind the scenes. This campaign gives us a playful way to bring that to life for a new generation of travellers, showing the lengths we go to in order to make every stay comfortable and consistent. By turning our real sleep testing processes into entertaining social content, we're able to reinforce the simple truth behind our new platform: when you stay with Premier Inn, you know what you're getting."

Paddy Smith, Chief Creative Officer at Born Social: "We've all been subjected to a corporate explainer or stumbled into a QVC shopping channel. It's an awkward, brilliant, creative playground for a brand that's willing to stick its neck out. Given how far Premier Inn go to guarantee a great night's sleep, it's only fair they get the chance to spotlight it, and this work brings education and entertainment together beautifully. With Al Nash at the helm, someone who's fast becoming the biggest name in the social comedy scene, it has all of the components of great social-first creative. Uniquely British and tonally brave. Quality work."
