O2 campaign highlights role of connectivity in daily life
O2 has launched Near or Far, the latest campaign under its Essential for Living brand platform. Created with long-term agency partner VCCP, the campaign emphasizes O2’s national network coverage and continued investment in infrastructure.
At the centre of the work is a 40-second film directed by Frédéric Planchon through Academy Films. The spot shows a daughter calling her father, who is in a remote part of Wales, to share news of her new teaching role. The storyline demonstrates how O2’s network enables personal connections regardless of distance. The film is supported by a soundtrack from Jamie xx and closes with the line: Near or far, our network is with you.
Out-of-home campaign reinforces network presence
Alongside the film, a nationwide out-of-home push places O2’s network coverage in both urban and rural environments, underlining its omnipresence. Media planning and buying are handled by MG OMD, while production was managed by VCCP’s content studio Girl&Bear and digital agency Bernadette. The campaign runs across TV, video on demand, social media, radio, out-of-home and PR.
Simon Valcarcel, marketing director, Virgin Media O2: "Connection is fundamental to everyday life and enabling connection sits at the heart of O2. Whether it’s sharing exciting news with loved ones, downloading tickets to a gig or exploring new places, our network enables it all and ‘Near or Far.’ puts our network back at the forefront of the brand, acting as a reminder that O2 is there for you, in the big moments and the everyday ones."
A return to O2’s founding idea
David Masterman, executive creative director at VCCP: "Twenty-three years ago, we launched O2 with a powerful idea – that O2 is digital oxygen. Essential, invisible, always there. This campaign brings that founding thought into a new era, reminding the nation that near or far, O2 is with you."
The campaign follows O2’s earlier announcement that it is investing £2 million a day in its mobile network, part of a £700 million annual Mobile Transformation Plan to improve reliability, speed and coverage.
