Joe Public creative team wins Gold Lion at Cannes

Joe Public Young Lions team has won Gold Lion at the Cannes Lion. The team, comprising of young creatives Bernice Puleng Mosala and Raphael Janan Kuppasamy has been awarded for a film they did on mental health.

Kuppasamy is an integrated art director while Mosala an integrated copywriter.

Working with the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) the duo was to come up with a film focused on prevention of teenage suicide and connecting the youth with SADAG to tackle mental health problems. SADAG wanted to communicate the need to safely engage the youth in discussing suicide and mental health, eventually tackling stigma.

The Young Lions competition offers a platform for upcoming generation of creatives to display their skills under pressure.

The theme of this year’s competition is “Teen suicide shouldn’t be a secret.”

Kuppasamy was recognized as The Loeries Young Creative in 2022.

Jeroen van Eck , co-founder and Managing Director of Joe Public: “I had tears in my eyes. I met them on Monday and then we got together with all the Joe Public people. Then they had to deal with it. They arrived on Friday morning with a Goude Leeuw. I have not often been so happy for someone and of course also a little for ourselves, because it naturally radiates to the entire agency.”

Joe Public has offices in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa, as well as in Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Antwerp in Belgium.
