[Interview] Lodewijk Varossieau, Founder, SuperRebel.Agency
SuperRebel.Agency is a creative agency founded by Lodewijk Varossieau on the principle that brave creativity is a powerful business advantage. The agency has grown from a bold idea into a 70-strong creative force with offices in Amsterdam and Breda.
Recently merging with The Best Social and Today’s Milk, the agency now operates across three connected entities, Agency, Social and Digital, delivering strategy, campaigns, social activations and performance marketing.
With expansion plans into Belgium and Germany, Varossieau is steering SuperRebel.Agency towards becoming one of Europe’s leading creative hubs for brave brands. He spoke to Marketing Report.
What was the spark that led you to launch SuperRebel.Agency, and how has the agency evolved since then?
It started with a belief: that brave creativity could be a serious business advantage. I wanted to build an agency that puts strong ideas first. An agency that stands out by design, not just by words. That doesn't follow the rulebook but leads with instinct, clarity and conviction. That's how SuperRebel.Agency began.
Since then, we've evolved from a bold idea into a serious creative force. Recently, we joined forces with two strong agencies, The Best Social and Today's Milk. Together, we now form one powerful platform of over 70 people, working from our offices in Amsterdam and Breda. With support from Antea Participaties and an excellent management team, we're building for the future.
Our brand ecosystem now includes three distinct but connected entities.
SuperRebel.Agency focuses on brand strategy, big ideas, design and campaigns.
SuperRebel.Agency/Social leads in social media, influencers, community and activations.
SuperRebel.Agency/Digital delivers performance marketing and digital development.
This structure allows us to move faster, think smarter and create work that's as effective as it is original. Our ambition is to become one of the leading creative agencies for brave brands in Europe. We're actively expanding, looking for strong tech add-ons and preparing to open branches in Belgium and Germany.
It's not about being the biggest. It's about building a creative ecosystem that delivers bold ideas with real impact across every touchpoint. We are the agency 'Where Brave Brands become Famous.'. So it is still a bold decision to become a client but we will deliver. Always.
How would you define SuperRebel.Agency's creative DNA?
We're bold but smart. Stylish but strategic. We combine clear thinking with distinctive execution. That's what defines our work and our team.
We don't just aim to create campaigns that perform. We create ideas that people remember. That connect emotionally. That challenges convention without losing clarity. It's creativity with backbone.
How do you measure the success of a creative campaign beyond traditional metrics?
We always look at performance, but we also look at meaning. Did it move the brand forward? Did it spark conversation, shift perception, or create something that lives beyond the campaign?
Success is measured in business results, but also in cultural relevance, emotional impact and long-term brand value. When a client says, "I wish I came up with this idea myself," that's when we know it worked.
The advertising world is being transformed by AI, data and new media. How is SuperRebel.Agency adapting?
We're not trying to chase every new tool. We use technology to enhance our creativity, not to replace it.
AI helps us move faster, explore ideas, and create more personalised content. Data gives us clarity, not complexity. And new platforms give us new playgrounds. But at the heart of it all is still one thing: strong ideas that connect with people.
How do you see brands needing to evolve in order to connect with younger, more value-driven audiences?
Younger audiences value clarity and consistency. They want brands to speak honestly, act responsibly and stay culturally aware.
That means having a point of view and standing for it. It also means being open to collaboration, being part of the conversation, and knowing when to say less. Relevance comes from meaning, not noise.
What is the most significant challenge facing the agency world today, and how is SuperRebel.Agency positioned to navigate it?
The biggest challenge is staying creatively original in a world where speed, sameness and safe choices are often rewarded. There's a lot of content, but not enough creativity.
We've built a model that protects ideas and keeps them sharp. Strategy leads, creativity drives, and everything is built to move fast without losing quality. I also believe many average agencies will disappear. The ones that survive are the ones who can bring real creative thinking to the table, not just deliverables.
In an age of short-form video and fleeting social media trends, how do you approach building lasting brand equity and storytelling?
We start with a clear story. What does the brand stand for? What do we want people to feel, not just click?
Then we build ideas that live across formats. From six-second videos to long-form content, from activations to retail. Each piece adds to the bigger picture. Short-form is important, but long-term thinking keeps the brand consistent and recognisable.
We design systems, not just campaigns. That's how we build brands that last.
What excites you most about the future of advertising and creative industries, and what worries you?
What excites me is that creativity is starting to matter again. The industry is slowly moving away from one-size-fits-all campaigns and back to ideas with real distinction. Clients are seeing that standing out is more valuable than fitting in.
What worries me is the overload. The constant pressure to produce, post and push. It can flatten creativity and burn out teams. That's why we believe in doing fewer things, better. With purpose.
What's next for SuperRebel.Agency?
We're scaling up, but with intention. With our recent merger, we now have the platform and talent to grow into one of Europe's leading creative agencies for brave brands.
We're expanding into Belgium and Germany, exploring smart tech partnerships, attracting more and more international clients and continuing to invest in our own brand and IP. The goal is simple: to keep raising the bar in creativity, clarity and impact.
