Heineken has unveiled the latest chapter of its Fans Have More Friends platform, developed with creative agency LePub, by transforming one of the most isolated seats at the UEFA Champions League Final into a shared football experience.

The activation took place during the UEFA Champions League Final at Puskás Aréna in Budapest and was designed to demonstrate how football fandom can create connections between strangers through shared experiences.

Competition winner surprised at Final

The campaign centred on a competition run in partnership with football content creator The Padded Seat, who is known for highlighting unusual stadium viewing locations.

The winning fan, Forest Robinson, attended the Final expecting to watch the match alone from what Heineken identified as the stadium's most isolated seat. Positioned away from other spectators, the seat was selected to illustrate the campaign's message around connection and community.

Xavi Hernández joins the experience

What appeared to be a solitary matchday experience changed when former UEFA Champions League winner Xavi Hernández arrived to join Robinson.

A hidden second seat was revealed alongside the original position, transforming the isolated location into a shared viewing area. The pair watched the Final together and took part in a series of exclusive experiences, including access to Heineken's Skybox and post-match celebrations following Paris Saint-Germain's victory.

Campaign builds on Fans Have More Friends platform

The activation forms part of Heineken's wider Fans Have More Friends platform, which explores how sport can help create social connections between people who have never met.

Supported by global PR agency The Romans, the project was designed to demonstrate how football fandom can encourage interaction, even in situations that initially appear isolating.

Heineken highlights power of fandom

Nabil Nasser, Global Head of Heineken Brand: "I know from experience that going to a match on your own does not mean experiencing it alone. A few years ago, I went to a game with friends, but we were split up in the stadium and I found myself sitting alone among supporters of another team. What could have felt like an isolated experience became one of the best I have ever had in a stadium, because I was completely swept up in the passion, humour and energy of the fans around me.

That is the spirit behind Fans Have More Friends. Fandom gives people an instant reason to connect. Turning a solo seat into one of the most social experiences of the Final felt like a simple but powerful way to bring that idea to life, and to show that fans often have more friends around them than they think."

LePub focuses on participation and connection

Bruno Bertelli, Global CEO, LePub and Chief Creative Officer, LePub Worldwide: "This project is a great example of the kind of ideas brands should create today: experiences designed not just to be seen, but to spark participation, conversation and emotional connection. With Heineken, we wanted to turn a simple cultural insight into something people could instantly recognize, engage with and genuinely desire to be part of. The result is a project that blends creativity, entertainment and social relevance in a way that feels both contemporary and naturally shareable."

Following the Final, Heineken plans to continue exploring ways to connect attendees at live events and has pledged to upgrade additional solo seats across UEFA Champions League stadiums during the next season.
