Craft meets sport in Chivas Regal 16 launch
Collaboration between luxury spirits brands and cultural figures is increasingly centred on co-creation rather than endorsement, as brands seek to build deeper narrative value around craftsmanship and identity.
In this context, Chivas Regal has partnered with Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc to launch Chivas Regal 16 Limited-Edition, marking the first 16-year-old expression in the brand’s history and Leclerc’s first signature blend.
The release is positioned as a joint creative process rather than a traditional brand collaboration, built around shared principles of refinement, precision and continuous improvement.
Co-creation process drives product development
The whisky was developed through a direct exchange between Leclerc and Chivas Regal’s Master Blender Sandy Hyslop, with both sides actively involved in shaping the final profile. The process began with Leclerc challenging the brand to create a new expression aligned with his personal vision, leading to a collaborative blending process involving 16 whiskies aged at least 16 years.
A key influence in the final blend was a sherry cask-matured Longmorn single malt, selected during Leclerc’s visit to Scotland, where he engaged with the production process before refining the direction of the final product.
Charles Leclerc: "16 has always been more than a number to me - it’s something I’ve carried my whole career. Going to Scotland, seeing the distilleries, understanding the obsession behind every cask inspired me to create my own blend. Chivas Regal and I share the same belief that the standard you set today is just the starting point. I pushed Sandy to go further. He pushed me to think differently. Chivas Regal 16 felt like the natural next step in our partnership, creating something truly extraordinary together."
Craft-led positioning reinforces shared philosophy
The partnership reflects a broader alignment between sporting performance and whisky craftsmanship, with both sides emphasising precision, iteration and long-term discipline. The collaboration positions the product as the outcome of mutual refinement rather than a one-directional brand endorsement.
Sandy Hyslop, Master Blender, Chivas Regal: "Charles didn’t just put his name to this. He was in the room, making decisions, pushing back. He gravitated toward the character that defines Chivas Regal: rich, layered, built with real depth. What we’ve created together is a blend that’s unmistakably his and unmistakably ours."
Product experience shaped by storytelling and place
The blend is structured around flavour notes of citrus, dried fruit, spice and oak, with a profile designed to reflect layered complexity and maturation. The launch was introduced in Miami ahead of the Grand Prix, where Leclerc and Chivas Regal showcased the project through a discussion focused on the development process and shared creative approach.
The release reinforces a growing trend in premium spirits marketing, where product storytelling is anchored in personal narratives and collaborative craftsmanship rather than traditional celebrity association.
