Citi and American Airlines launch dual travel campaigns
Citi and American Airlines have unveiled two advertising campaigns created in partnership with Havas Chicago, marking the next phase of their long-standing co-brand relationship. The campaigns introduce the Citi/AAdvantage Globe card and signal Citi’s return to airport advertising with American Airlines for the first time in nearly ten years.
Both campaigns expand on the Travel On creative platform, designed to engage travellers across every stage of their journey—from digital and social channels to airport lounges and in-flight environments.
‘Get Global’ introduces Citi/AAdvantage Globe card
The Get Global campaign promotes the new Citi/AAdvantage Globe card, using a distinctive green carpet visual to represent the premium travel benefits that accompany the product. These include four Admirals Club Globe passes and an American Airlines Companion Certificate.
The campaign features a custom soundtrack developed by Art of Sound and Havas Chicago to reinforce Citi’s culture-led marketing approach. It launched on October 30 across addressable linear TV, streaming and online video, out-of-home placements, and both paid and organic social media channels.
Elyse Lesley, Head of USPB Marketing and Franchise Development, Citi: “To elevate our 38-year card partnership with American Airlines and build on our Travel On co-brand platform, we’ve created a bold campaign to mark the newest addition to the Citi/AAdvantage portfolio, offering enhanced value to even more travellers. To convey how the new Citi/AAdvantage Globe card puts premium travel within reach, we’re excited to pair this unique campaign with a custom soundtrack designed to evoke excitement, speak to today’s global traveller and position the co-brand within culture.”
Citi returns to airport advertising with ‘Vacation Mode Is On’
The second campaign, Vacation Mode Is On, marks Citi’s re-entry into airport advertising after nearly a decade. Highlighting the Citi/AAdvantage Platinum Select card, the campaign positions every card use as a step toward more rewarding travel experiences.
With more than 1,000 tailored placements across ten major US international airports—including Dallas Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Chicago O’Hare, Phoenix, Miami, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and New York’s JFK and LaGuardia—the campaign reaches travellers throughout their airport journey. Messaging appears at key touchpoints, from check-in and security to boarding gates, in-flight environments, and departure areas.
Andy Malloy, EVP and Head of Strategy, Havas Chicago: “We’re seeing a growing desire from our audience for travel that feels more intentional and aspirational. They’re seeking more premium experiences shaped not only by where they go and what their passions are, but by how the journey feels from start to finish. So for these travellers we wanted to acknowledge that sense of swagger, and the Citi/AAdvantage Globe card acts as the catalyst that amplifies their travel experiences with an array of premium benefits, so they get the most out of every moment.”
Building a stronger travel brand ecosystem
The campaigns mark a significant evolution in Citi and American Airlines’ 38-year partnership, using data-driven targeting and cultural insights to position the brands at the centre of modern travel experiences. By integrating media across both physical and digital environments, the work reflects a cohesive effort to connect with travellers wherever they are—on the ground or in the air.
