Ant Group launches AI-powered campaign to combat health misinformation in China

Ant Group has announced a major initiative and campaign through its AI healthcare app AQ to tackle the growing challenge of health misinformation in China, with a special emphasis on protecting elderly users.

A newly launched AI-powered feature within AQ allows users to verify the authenticity of medical advertisements and content by uploading photos, typing in text, or initiating a simple one-click voice call. Designed with seniors in mind, the tool offers a smooth, intuitive experience to quickly detect fraudulent claims.

To further safeguard access to credible healthcare information, Ant Group has partnered with over 300 leading physicians across China to develop AI Doctor Agents within AQ. These AI agents deliver authoritative, evidence-based medical advice to users. In parallel, through Ant Group’s online consultation platform Haodf.com, more than 200,000 licensed doctors are available for real-time person-to-person consultations directly in the AQ app.

The urgency of this effort is underscored by research from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, which found that more than 40% of elderly people in China have fallen victim to scams involving fake health products, while 3 in 10 have been misled by medical misinformation.

Beyond digital tools, Ant Group plans to host thousands of in-person education sessions nationwide to help seniors recognize and avoid medical scams—bridging digital access with on-the-ground awareness.

Junjie Zhang, Vice President, Ant Group and Head of Healthcare Business: “In the age of AI, we are dedicated to combating false medical advertising and health misinformation with AQ, thus making healthcare more accessible and people’s lives healthier.”

Officially launched in June 2025 following a successful public testing phase beginning in September 2024, AQ has already attracted 100 million users. The app is powered by Ant Group’s Healthcare Large Model, which leverages more than a decade of healthcare expertise. With advanced medical reasoning and multimodal interaction capabilities, the model has consistently ranked first in both HealthBench and MedBench evaluations.

Through these initiatives, Ant Group aims to strengthen trust in digital healthcare, improve the efficiency of limited medical resources, and advance medical inclusion for all.
